Hello Patrick, I have windows xp- home editition, v. 2002, and NVIDIA Ge Force4 Mx440, 128mb.

My pc crashes sometimes when I try to restart a level, or if one of the caracters got killed ( when more than one)
Then I must reeboot the computer.

Hope you`ll soon find the solution.

Patrick, my experience is similar to jperleevt. It happens after switching back and forth between the game and IE and there is a sound involved.

Windows XP Prof (5.1, Build 2600)
Pentium 4
512 mb ram
DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)
NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX

I check my error logs and found this:

07-02-04 Hanging application wdlgame.exe, version 0.0.0.0, hang module wdlgame.exe, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x0009ada0.

Fault bucket 118533080

07-04-04 Hanging application wdlgame.exe, version 0.0.0.0, hang module wdlgame.exe, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x000ad045. (this message was listed 3 times.)

Fault bucket 119010656

07-04-04 Hanging application wdlgame.exe, version 0.0.0.0, hang module wdlgame.exe, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x0009ae01.

Hope that this helps.

Salin, I'll answer for Gen....

They are in Event Viewer (Start ; Settings ; Control Panel ; Administrative Tools ; Event Viewer ; Application)

Patrick my errors are the same are Gen's:

Hanging application wdlgame.exe, version 0.0.0.0, hang module wdlgame.exe, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x000ad1da.

Don't know why I didn't think to look there in the first place, I only do this sort of stuff for a living. :-)

Salin, it is part of Windows XP. Go to:

Start
Help and Support
Computer Information (on the left)
Error logs (on the left)

It should bring up a list of errors generally in chronological order (you may have to hunt for the right date). Try the last entries first.

Have you not had any problems with Version 5?

The Zone alarm forums General threads are full of people having problems with 5+ (myself included)

Problem I have is that it conflicts with Mcaffee and Norton (ZA customer service acknowledge this but won't refund me :O ) And since I spent a fortune on Mcaffee and Norton security I'm not about to turn them off.

The official suggestion is to revert to version 4.5 again which is what I did.

*sigh*

No, no problems so far, that's what my brother has, too. I had Norton anti-virus but got tired of paying to upgrade every year so got AVG free version.....seems compatable!!! Cheap is good, free is better"

I'm running Win 98 SE and had no real problems so far. Occassionally when I try to play a custom level I will get a similar error or the memory access problem. I have noticed lately, that sometimes when I alt-x, I can't move my characters after I restart the level. Sometimes it won't let me move them until I restart my computer. Anyone else having that problem? This started with the regular RTW, about 2 or 3 weeks before the release of the Deluxe version. It occurs in both versions occassionally.

I do hope it's not catching.
Looks like it is catching, I've just had a lock up while I was playing a custom level 'Peegue saves the Day'. I had just pressed Esc to start again when the whole thing froze. The music was still playing though. Couldn't press Windows button, or Ctrl-Alt-Del. Had to press the restart button.

Looked in error logs, nothing there for today :!: :?: in the application tab. tons of stuff in the system tab but most of it is just information not errors.

I've got DirectX 9, can't see anything about a video card but did see Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller. Full screen mode, Windows XP.

I did a test to see if everythings working properly and it is.

The only other thing running at the time was Norton Anti-virus Auto Protect, but I always have that running.

Oh, btw I had been playing for about 45mins.

Hi Patrick,

Just had 3 'lock-up's' in the space of 1 hour playing the custom levels. (Although all of my previous problems were within the game itself.)

On all 3 occasions I had just made a mistake so I had pressed ESC and was at the menu wanting to 'Restart this Level' :?: :?:

Hard to track this one down. Grrr...

Does everyone have editor and game running (and possibly IE) at the same time? Or has someone gotten a crash just from playing the game, nothing else running?

Hi Patrick, I also had a lock-up this morning. I was playing W7L1 of DRTW and Qookie had just exited and said "Bye-Bye". A few minutes prior to this I had switched to EI and then back to the level. When the program froze, there was a "machine-gun" type noise. I could not control-alt-del and kill the program. I could not shut down Windows or the CPU. I had to pull the electrical plug and then re-boot. I checked the error log, but there was no message, perhaps because the I had to plug the plug.

Any word on what is causing this?

That's really strange that you get crashes. I have a windows xp proffessionall and it never, ever, EVER crashes when I play RTW. But it does lock up and make a violent buzz.

I don't have anything running in the background.

My machine is:-

AMD DURON MMX 3D 796MHz.

160MB RAM.

WIN ME.

Radeon 9000 series.

DirectX 9.

800x600 Res.

I cannot remember the exact level, it was one of the later ones (After W6.) It hasn't happened with any of the custom levels. YET!

I only had the game running and Norton Anti-virus.

I have had the game, the editor and IE open at the same time before and had no problem.

I only had the game running, and my DSL wireless adapter. My system is up to date. I am using a radeon 9600 graphicsboard. My system has an AMD 2800 processor with 500+ MEG RAM and too harddrives with 160 GB.

One of the crashes happened in the menu, the other two while one of the characters was leaving a level through the gateway.

Hope this helps!

Still searching. Detected a small "memory leak" (don't worry, your computer isn't leaking fluid or anything ;) ), which might be the cause - not sure it is since it turns out the original wonderland had the same leak, and obviously no problems.

For people comfortable unziping and renaming files:
Here's a test executable for those of you having crashes. If you wish you can rename wdlgame.exe into wdlgamebackup.exe and then rename the attached wdltest.exe to wdlgame.exe (that way you'll run the test version from the desktop shortcut). It's the same game (with the leak) except during levels a list of video memory properties etc are displayed. If you do get another crash using this version, please post what the stats were when it died. That will help me determine if the leak is even the cause.

I am not sure if the way I did it could have worked.

I just put the test on the desktop and tried to enter it.I got a Memory Error Violation.

No you have to unzip it into your main RTW Deluxe Directory (where the other .exes are).

I sat and played the game for a while with the stats running and found that I was loosing a small trickle of available video memory every so often. Nothing major for me because I have a bit fat pipe and alot of memory onboard the card. But couldnt this memory leak be the culprit for people with slower cards? If you look at other peoples error log, they all seem to be hangapp errors, yet mine was ntdll.dll related, to me that suggests my 2 crashes were from a different cause than the others reported.

I didn't get a hanging application error when it happened to me. There weren't any application errors in the log for that day. :? But I had to restart with the button on the CPU so that may have stopped the error being logged. :?:
