Troubleshooting graphic drivers in all Wonderland Adventure Games

Post by Sofoulini » Tue Dec 04, 2018 10:05 pm

Hi everyone...

As I said and in my last posts, I have Windows 10 Home Premium in my new laptop.
While I can play the three original Wonderland Games perfectly, unfortunately I can't play the three Wonderland Adventure Games.
When I try to play them, messages appear in my screen (I put screenshots about those messages below) that those games are unable to set in graphic mode.
I already updated them in my last graphic drivers but still, no luck. And I already installed DirectPlay, you know.

I would appreciate any help from you.~

The user redbird is also having same problem, and it is still unresolved.

Could you give me the information such as model number of your laptop and the model of your CPU and GPU? I don't know what to do here, but if you could provide me these details, it may be possible to catch the issue.

I think I had this problem once with the WA3 Editor and/or Plaayer? I'm pretty sure it used to happen when it tried to launch in full screen. I haven't played in a whwhile but I seem to recall it fixing itself though... Hmm. Have you tried changing screen resolution?

I have created a small program in Blitz3D which performs a simple test on your available graphics card. Unzip the file into a fresh directory and run it and it'll create a file named gfxlog.txt in the root directory
All you have to do is to send me the contents of that "gfxlog.txt".

This way I can know how Blitz3D understands your graphics hardware.

Unzip and run the file. Don't worry, it is 100% safe.

I've did some modding in WA Editor v3.00 exe. Download the WA Editor v3.00 (without any archive) by clicking here. You may also download the WA Editor setup (with the archive having cool stuff) by clicking here.

Now download my modded exe from here: https://archive.zbots.space/files/wg_modded.exe
Put it in your WA Editor folder. Try to run "wg.exe" first and then run "wg_modded.exe".

Hope it helps!

Weird... I checked the code for that line, it uses IfGFXMode3DExists and is returning FALSE for you for some reason. Aryan, what did you test for in your program?

I used GFXMode3D and GFXDriver3D to check the graphics card drivers and all the GFX resolutions and they're returning true. I thought it was an issue with Blitz3D version so I imported WAE wg.exe to the latest version of Blitz3D using resource hacker and uploaded it here for testing. Also I'm sure it's fine to release it here just for testing.
If the problem is still there with this modded version then I'll assume that IfGFXMode3DExists is the main culprit here.

I KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS!!!

Step 1. Locate the games player (i.e the launcher)

Step 2. Choose Full screen and MAKE SURE to choose 640x480

Step 3. Save that, and close the launcher.

Step 4. Right click on the actual game.exe (or wg.exe) and go to 'Properties'

Step 5. Go to 'Compatibility'

Step 6. Click the boxes next to 'Run in 640x480 Screen Resolution' and 'Disable Full Screen optomizations'

Step 7. (Optional) Click on 'run this program in compatibility mode for; and choose Windows 7.

This should do the trick, as it fixed the problem for me several times.
OH GOD.

This option did not work for me. I don't even have an option to run in full screen or not.

Try to run my modded wg.exe of WA Editor v3.00. I've put the download link above.

Run my gfxtest utility and post the contents of "gfxlog.txt" here.

You can download it from here - http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/download/ ... p?id=48301

Also, try deleting "display.wdf" file from UserData folder (of WA Editor v3.00). In WA1 in should be in root folder. For MOFI and POTZ, you can rename "localsaveoff.txt" to "localsaveon.txt" to reset all user options.

I'm updating my gfxtest utility to you IfGFXMode3DExists to check your graphics card. So just be here for a while.

I have updated the utility and it now uses IfGFXMode3DExisits to check your GFX resolutions.

I assume that you have tried my "display.wdf" deleting method above.

I also can't find the display.wdf, I have looked in every folder of the editor and the game.
Also, in the launcher, you can set the resolution to 640x480x32 and then can set fullscreen mode.

the only option i have is to change to windows 7 or any other operation system (which I have tried all of them)
the resolution to 640x480 and to disable full-screen optimizations.
there is nothing on there about using full screen as the other poster above mentioned.
I can reduce my color mode or change dpi settings but I don't know what i'm doing on the dpi so I haven't touched it.

I meant that in the launcher, you just set resolution to 640x480x32 and then you should be able to select full screen mode in the launcher. Also, do you have any folder named UserData in the WA Editor root directory? I think I should send you my "display.wdf" file.

I can set the resolution in compatibility screen but the program never opens to change to full screen. Yes I found the user data in the editor but none of the folders have the display.wdf in it. I even did a search for it and computer cant find it.

I am sending you my "display.wdf" file. Put it in UserData folder and try to run "wg.exe". Also, remove any compatibility settings you made for the "wg.exe".

Patrick told me it was an new error that cropped up the latest windows 10 update from october. I reset my computer yesterday but still unable to load or play these games. However, wonderland, and secrets, I can play. RTW I get a memory access violation.

I think you meant October 2018 update. Yeah, it caused my WA Editor v3.00 to lag, so I reverted back to the previous version.

About the RTW MAV... that's weird. Sofia also had same problem, but he/she installed the game from his/her collection and it fixed.

I am currently unable to find any more possible solution(s). I'll be now doing some research on this, so I may contact you once more.

I lost my collections over the years (bought then over 12 years ago), so I found free versions of wonderland and secrets and played those, then I bought adventures and mysteries (now out $24) so need less to say, I am very upset. Hopefully since Patrick knows whats going on they can fix it.
Thank you for your help so far :D

Careful there. I've known people in a similar situation to you, but you can't justify doing that.

I bought 2 games that I can't play, what needs to be justified?
