After the purple shard and the return to the market I bought a coin from the merchant thinking i needed it for something.
Now what do I do with it???

i can't remember the merchant having a coin for sale. he's not a scam artist (hey got two tens for a five?)
he did have a token, that he didn't call a token. it might have been called a rare coin or special coin... but i'm pretty sure it was a token
could it have been a token and you've used it (thus are looking for one more token)?
it would have to be some kind of a special coin, if not a token. and if you haven't been able to use it, you must still have it in your bag. so take a screen shot and show us what it looks like, maybe we'll remember something.

How did you buy that coin from the Merchant? He doesn't sell anything like that. You can buy a token and a gold star from him, but not that coin. Those are the coins you get two of in the pyramid, and you have to use them in the pyramid, so you shouldn't have one in your bag.
UNLESS you aborted the pyramid level after you'd done one side of it and got one coin, then subsequently went back and played it again and got both coins, so you had 3 of them in your bag. (I have a spare white key in my bag that I got from one of the Wonderland Adventure arcade levels
)
If you want to get rid of it, try floinging back to the pyramid level and putting the coin/mask on the wall, then aborting the level. That might remove it from your bag, not sure. Or if you have plenty of room in your bag you could just keep it as a souvenir.
PS. I also see you have all 7 shards but still have a mushroom key (that should have been used in the mushroom cave where you got the red shard) and 3 red keys!! How have you accumulated all these extra things?

Well the mushroom key may still be some use to you. You said you were missing a token? Well there is a token in the mushroom cave AFTER you get the red shard. So maybe you didn't go any further after you got the shard. Perhaps you could go back and have a look around in there to see if the token is still there waiting for you?

That coin is from within the Pyramid. You need that coin to pop up the bridge to the yellow shard. But you ended that level with cheating. So you're left with that coin.
