You get the idea.

So, what's the puzzle? And what means "pl0x"? Or is that the puzzle perhaps?

by Sammy_P
pl0x is shorter for please.

Only just. To be honest, it's probably easier to say please (as we are less used to typing numbers than letters). And how is anyone supposed to know that pl0x means please? They don't sound or look anything like each other.

"pl0x" is the weirdest short-form of a word that I have ever heard of... I mean the word doesn't even sound or look anything close to "please".

Wow... not only did we both post the same time, you said almost exactly the same as what I said.

At least "Plz" makes a bit of sence.

Yes, I knew "plz", but pl0x, plz, pleeeeeaaaase, next time say just "please", that's most clear.

OK, still waiting for a tricky puzzle. :)

Yes, according to this page, typing "pl0x" takes 19 units of effort whereas typing "please" takes only 15.

This isn't that hard. But I'll post it anyway.

There are three people: A, B, and C.
After all three signing up for the job, B got the job.
After all three being told whether they got the job or not,
A was happy.
B was unhappy.
C was unhappy.
Which of the three wanted the job?

C?

Correct.

Cool.

I got one.

2 daughters and 2 moms go out to get dresses for a wedding. They get one each, but they only bought 3. How is this possible?

Ok, this one tecnically has more that one posible anser, but I am looking for only one of them.

One of them is sent as a gift?

That works, but it was'nt the anser I had in mind.

Also, Marinus PMed me and got it. 8)

The people who went to buy the dresses were a grandmother, a mother, and the mother's daughter. The grandmother is the mother's mother, and the mother is the daughter's mother - 2 moms. However, the mother is the grandmother's daughter, and the daughter is the mother's daughter - therefore, 2 daughters.

Is this the solution Marinus gave?

Yes.

It doesn't really make sense though. :|

It is told that there are four people. If two people are the same then that means there are three. And it is said that there are four.

No. Flying Boy did not mention the word or number "four" or "4".

Posted: Tue Jan 04, 2011 8:58 pm
by billy bob
Yes, but 2 + 2 = 4.

Think out-of-the-box.

What?

2 daughters.
2 mothers.
Daughters = people.
Mothers = people.
2 + 2 = 4
4 people.
Two of the four people can't be the same person otherwise there would be three people in total.

That's the time to think out-of-the-box.

One people may have several identities. For example, I am Timothy Choi in real life, I am tyteen4a03 in this forum (and mostly all other forums), I am a moderator in this forum while I am an administrator on 3.studIo forums.

And you are one person even though you have multiple identities.

Ok, with a grandma, mom, and daughter(in the same family), the mom is a daughter of the grandma and a mom of the daughter. So the mom is a daughter and a mom.

moms-1 (1 left)
daughters-1 (1 left)

Now, the grandma is a mom and the daughter is a daughter.

moms-1 (0 left)
daughters-1 (0 left)

Ok?

True. But BWF did not say how many persons there were; only how many identities.

2 mothers and 2 daughters may suggest there are 4 people, but it does not say it.

If it was not a puzzle it may be unclear or unfair to say it that way, but since it is a puzzle that's just the trick.

If a daughter is also a mother then that does not mean they are two people.

And even if it did work like that then there would be three daughters (you'd have to have two people that have two (not each) daughters that didn't come instead).

You completeley missed the point.
Just because they are listed as a Mother AND a Daughter does NOT mean they are two people.

That is true. That person is mentioned twice, but it is still only one person.

Let's say there are 3 people. 2 of them are female and 1 is male. 2 of them wear a hat, and 1 has no hat.

Then there are 2 people female and 2 people are wearing a hat. Still only 3 people. One person is mentioned twice because it's a female person, and also a person wearing a hat.
(you'd have to have two people that have two (not each) daughters that didn't come instead).
Yes, there are 2 people (mom and grandma) that have two daughters. (mom and kittle girl) Doesn't mean there are three daughters.

It could mean two things. Only one of them works for the puzzle (which adds another element).

Every female is a daughter.
