The Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show Discussion Topic thing

Post by Master Wonder Mage » Tue Jul 08, 2014 3:48 pm

I figured I might as well post a topic about this because I can. But this is a topic for discussing all live-action Sci-fi/Fantasy TV shows and movies. It'll probably die because that's what my topics do, but whatever.

I've watched:
-Doctor Who (New series, 7 seasons so far, 13 episodes per season)
-Torchwood (2 seasons of 13 episodes, 1 season of 6 episodes, and 1 season of 10 episodes)
-Merlin (5 seasons, 13 episodes per season)
-Robin Hood (3 seasons, 13 episodes per season)
-Firefly (14 episodes and a movie)
-Star Trek Deep Space Nine (7 seasons, 25 episodes per season)
-Star Trek: The Next Generation (selected episodes, 7 seasons 25 episodes per season)
-Star Trek VIII: First Contact (movie)
-Farscape (4 seasons, 25 episodes per season and a 2 episode miniseries)

and I'm currently watching Eureka (5 seasons, 25 episodes per season I think.)

Generally speaking, Doctor Who is my favorite, although it probably has the worst "bad" episodes out of any of them. Firefly might have been my favorite if it hadn't gotten cancelled so early. I found Star Trek: The Next Generation generally boring, which is why I only watched certain episodes. Deep Space 9 has a boring first couple of seasons, but gets really good by the end. Farscape is also good if you don't mind things getting REALLY STRANGE sometimes. Also, Torchwood is pretty much garbage except for season 2. And season 2 still doesn't match up to other things. I only halfway enjoyed it because it was the second one I watched.

I've watched Eureka and Warehouse 13, myself.

Both are pretty good shows, in my opinion;
plus, they have about three cross-over episodes.

And if you hear the "Carwash"...

I myself haven't actually watched much Dr. Who, but I have been considering it for a while, now; especially after all of the recommendations I've gotten.

Also, if you want to see my level list, here it is! :D

Oh, and my YT wonderland channel. Forgot about that.

I've watched Merlin and Doctor Who.

Doctor Who is fantastic when the episodes are well written, but terrible when the episodes are poorly written. The spread of good to bad episodes is about 50-50, but it still remains entertaining enough to keep my attention. My favorite episodes include The Girl in the Fireplace, Human Nature/The Family of Blood, Midnight, The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon, and The Angels Take Manhattan. My least favorite episode are probably Love and Monsters, Fear Her, and Vincent and the Doctor. (Yes, I know the last one was generally well-received, but I just found it extremely cheesy.)

Suckiness aside, Merlin was just 100% fun. 'nuff said.

I'd say that Doctor Who is balanced more on the good side than the bad side. I do agree that Love and Monsters and Fear Her were pretty terrible, although Vincent fell more on the meh side than the bad side. Angels Take Manhattan was decent, but I didn't really like it. It felt like it could have been a lot better IMO. In terms of my favorites, I loved The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways, Family of Blood/Human Nature, The End of Time, and Day of the Doctor.

Merlin was an example of a show that got a lot better as it progressed. Season 1 was downright cheesy, Season 2 was better, Season 3 continued getting better, Season 4 was basically a Darker and Edgier rewrite of Season 3, and Season 5 was probably one of the tensest entire seasons I've watched.

Doctor Who is a favourite of mine as well, though I have to say, since Series 4 I haven't enjoyed it anywhere near as much.

It's not bad, there are still good episodes, but overall it just doesn't appeal to me as much anymore.

I'm up to date on it, I'm just not as into it as I used to be.

Angels Take Manhattan destroyed me for about three days. :P

Live-action basically means not animated.

Code Lyoko Evolution is Live-Action during the non-Lyoko parts. The Lyoko sections are animated. As for it being sci-fi, I would say that it is. IMDB lists the original show as sci-fi.

So many of my friends in middle school watched Doctor Who, there was even a club for it. Along with British 'Sherlock' and other popular series.

Have now finished Eureka and Warehouse 13. Am tentatively watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, although by the time I decide definitely whether I like it or not, I'll probably have finished all seven seasons.

So, three episodes into Doctor Who series 8. I like Capaldi as the new Doctor.

More than anything, though, I have to say, I'm liking series 8 a lot more than series 7 already.

Series 8 is really great. Finally the Daleks are credible threats again.
