The problem with the designs (for me at least) is that I prefer the old Allo, but the old Allo isn't bright enough for the new blocks. The new Allo suits the new blocks more, but, well, he just doesn't look right. :?
Dlcs, could you try making the old Allo a little brighter and posting a new "Old Allo New Blocks" picture?

I think the new old Allo is too bright.

I think Allo should be darker.

But I'm not going to be able to play the game, so...

Yes. It's released. :P

If you are talking about the next one, which is demo 4, I am redesigning every level to make them better, and I have a new object which isn't really that exciting but still... it's a yellow block that make you bounce real high. That's all the information I can give so far.

Double post... but it's been forever. :lol:

I haven't had much time to work on Spacegame, so I haven't done much for the past few days... but since it's the weekend (Yes, weekend. England isn't on summer break yet!) I might be able to make more progress! :P

But just now, instead of trying to choose which kind of Allo I should go for, I've been working on a new character to replace Allo altogether.
I haven't named him yet, but I have some pictures of him.

100TH REPLY LOLOLOL

Looks awesome, albeit looks a lot like Kirby as well. :lol:

I can't help but wonder why you chose to replace Allo, though. Does it have to do with all these issues about which Allo to use?

Either way, awesome. :wink:

Yea. Everyone had different opinions (of course) but I didn't know which one I should go for, so I just decided to make a new character.

I prefer the old, brighter Allo to this.
Is there any way you can make the player choose? :)

There is a way. You can even remember the user's choice using INI files.

Example of an INI file (set.ini):

Code: Select all

[Global]
Char=new allo
In the object's Create event, execute the following code:

Code: Select all

ini_open("set.ini")
if (ini_read_string("Global","Char",0) = "new allo")
sprite_index = spr_newallo
if (ini_read_string("Global","Char",0) = "old allo")
sprite_index = spr_oldallo
if (ini_read_string("Global","Char",0) = "bright allo")
sprite_index = spr_brightallo
if (ini_read_string("Global","Char",0) = "new char")
sprite_index = spr_newchar
ini_close()
If you still don't understand, I'll make an extended tutorial. :)

I don't want it like that, though. :|

I think the new character was a step up from Allo... so even if I put in an option to choose I wouldn't feel that great about it.

I think the problem here is that it's pretty much impossible to satisfy everyone, no matter how hard you try.

If Dlcs doesn't want to put in an options menu for characters, he doesn't have to. However, if he chooses not to, then some people might lose interest.

I suggested to Dlcs over Skype that Allo could be an unlockable character, also unlocking the option to use the New Allo or the Old Allo.

To quote his response exactly;
Dlcs on Skype wrote:...=S
Personally, I think that the new character is a good replacement for Allo, because here there isn't really much room for debating if he fits in with the new blocks. The downside to that is that the debate will switch over to Allo's inclusion in the game.

Before anyone asks what I think about Allo in the game as an alternate character the player can switch to via Options, I support it 100%. However, I won't lose interest in the game just because Allo's not in it.

I'm not sure I follow here... Could you elaborate a bit, please? It might help clear up this whole issue. :)

Well, personally I think the new character (I really need to give him a name soon...) looks better than Allo.
With the option thingy, I just think choosing between a square or a round thing with two round feet just cause the old Allo was in the Demo versions is very random...

BUT WAIT!

I just came up with an idea for the game, that I got from Mario 64 DS: The story could include both Allo and the kirby thingy. :lol: and while in the game you could switch from one to the other to use for the levels. (and the one you are not using sits somewhere in the hub) I think that's better than just choosing from 2 different characters for the sake of it.
Does anyone else like this idea? :)

Yes, I agree with this idea. However, as long as it's not identical to Mario 64 in the way that different power ups have different effects for different players, I'm all for it.

Perhaps one character could move faster, and the other could jump higher?

Wait... Lets have the player choose which allo to unlock using blue kirby.

you can have a boss that when you defeat it you get a key to unlock one of the cages, and pick which allo to save!

And maybe you could find another key hidden in the level to unlock the other cage and save the other Allo?

At first I was going to disagree with the idea, (sad, eh?) because then it would be 2 variants of Allo and 1 *insert new character name here*, which would then turn the whole thing random again, (I like things to make perfect sense...) but I thought of another way to do it:
There's *new character* and Allo, and there's a spot in the hub for Allo to change forms! :P
Like it?

(I should really be programming all this by now...)

The Red block should be given a simple face, and be a later character to unlock, and could jump FARTHER.
