Adventure #48: Mr. Zurkon's House

Post by MyNameIsKooky » Sat Jun 16, 2012 8:32 am

Click here to see my level list.

-=-THE FINAL TOPHAT TRILOGY-=-

Part 1: SPRINGS OF PAIN AND SUFFERING
Part 2: Mr. Zurkon's House
Part 3: Tophats' Dimension

After another five months, I'm back to working on my main storyline adventures! :D

This adventure houses one of my most devious puzzles yet. I call it a "Smotherpuzzle," due to the way that many puzzle elements are smothered into one claustrophobic room. It's inspired by the puzzles made during Return to Wonderland's Golden Ages. You'll know the puzzle I'm talking about in this adventure when you see it.

Also, this adventure might even be stranger than THE GIANT ZURKON. I'm getting better and better at my own style of humor!

Anyways, have fun! :D

Finished!

STORYLINE: 18/20
Very good, but you didn't make much use of Mama Zurkon. I would've liked it if she put you to work (CLEAN THE BATHROOM! COOK ME DINNER! GO DIE IN THE BASEMENT!), instead she just stayed in her room doing nothing.

SCENERY: 15/20
Very good again, but not perfect. This seemed more like Znoo-Znee's house than Mr. Zurkon's. The music wasn't MANLY enough. The living room, bathroom, and dining room were too BORING (but the dining room had that random stinker), and overall only 50% remided me of Mr. Zurkon.

ACTION GAMEPLAY: 12/20
First Void Visit 7/10: Good, but it took me only 1 minute to find a strategy that always works, whatever the layout.
Second Void Visist 5/10: Just used my strategy and this was easy. If you make something like this again, try including some obstacles.

PUZZLE GAMEPLAY: 17/20
Bedroom 2/4: What exactly was the point of this room?
Library 4/4: Good, but the bouncing bookshelves were a bit weird. This may be Mr. Zurkon's house, but he isn't a wizard.
Living Room 4/4: My head hurts.
Bathroom 3/4: A clever idea, but some of those turtles just needed some luck.
Dining Room 4/4: My head hurts more.

GLITCH-FREE: 20/20
Nothing wrong here!

OVERALL: 82/100
Nice adventure, but had a few problems here and there.

Woo, almost to Adventure #50!

Hurry, try to beat Emerald!

Anyways, I'll try this level when I'm able to.

Because of my WA noobness, I'll probably never get past the library. I really enjoyed what I've played of it so far though. ^_^

It was supposed to be funny by making the player think he was supposed to avoid the buttons, but it turned out you didn't need to worry about them at all.

Hints to library wrote:Hint 1: Remember that Chomper pathfinding isn't as sophisticated when their path to you is blocked by something!
Hint 2: Use two of the Chompers to redirect the bookshelf to the red button.
Hint 3: Wait until the last few seconds before you go into the orange teleporter at the bottom of the area. This gives the bookshelf more time to get to the button and ensure you'll be able to get through the red gates before being chomped.

A few people have asked me about how to solve the living room, so I figured I might as well post a few hints. I'll post the full solution in a few days.
Hints for living room wrote:Hint 1: You must open the green gates once for long enough to free the Scritter behind the green gate in the first room, but they must be closed again afterwards.
Hint 2: One Scritter goes on the island with the green and wood buttons. Make sure not to collect the gem before then!
Hint 3: Sometimes, you have to be fast in the transporter area to get the Scritters to go where you want them to.

Excellent adventure! :D The smotherpuzzle was the best part, and I hope we see more of those in the future! They were the one thing I wished I got to see in people's custom adventures before it was made, so the fact that you are now including them in WA makes me really happy. I also found the fourth wall joke funny. Can't wait for the concluding adventure! (I assume there will be more action sequences than puzzles in it right? If so, hopefully there won't there won't be any parts that involve having to use magic quickly, as that gives me bad flashbacks of The Wrong Explosion and The Lost Casino)

One more thing, I think that the trololololo music should have been used in this adventure. It feels a bit more appropriate, and this adventure also could have been used as a tribute to Eduard Khil, due to his passing away two weeks ago.
Insert stupid jokes here.

Yeah, I'm really surprised that no one has done this in WA before. I will start building most of my adventures off of a single smotherpuzzle soon (they will be larger than the one in this adventure, of course). Naturally, I couldn't solve many of the ones in RTW, but when I did, I got a huge sense of accomplishment out of it. Hopefully these WA puzzles will have the same effect, rather than making the player feel stupid when they solve them as most of the custom adventures tend to do to me most of the time.

My next adventure will indeed be an action one. I've learned my lesson about being unfair and I'll be going for something more like Jeopardized.

You're right, it would have been more appropriate now that I think about it. Also, I didn't know that Eduard Khil passed away. May he rest in peace. And trolling. :(

Hint 3: You must use the springs in the topmost area of the bathroom to reach the rainbow key. Make sure you've already built all three turtle bridges!

No offence but i've been doing that but when I move the springs one way the turtle just keeps going as if I did nothing and if I do it the other way the turtle ends up getting killed.I'll try it again later.

Make sure to use the greenish-colored spring rotator button as well.

You have to time when you use the wood rotators. Otherwise the turtle won't hit the spring that leads out of the room.

You have to use the springs to reverse the turtle's direction. Just experiment a bit and you'll get it.

It's a shame I was never able to get past that part, either.

Let the chomper follow close in your wake that you might avoid it's incredible levels of intelligence.

That plan kind of backfired in the sense that it kept eating me.

Don't let it get too far behind you, but not too close either. Just make sure you only stop walking when the Chomper gets too far behind.
