New Level (Adv) - Gingerbread Forest Maze

Post by Triana » Thu Apr 28, 2005 10:46 pm

This is my first level, and not sure how well its going to work for someone else. I know how to do it, but the maze is pretty complicated. Not entirely sure I didn't create a problem that I naturally avoided since I knew how to do the level.

I also borrowed a gazebo and archway created by other people. I read somewhere that its ok to do that. If I'm misunderstanding or anyone objects, please let me know, and I'll fix it.

And haven't figured out how to create the zipped files in the correct folders yet.

Please let me know of any problems you run into so I can fix them. Will be watching the forum to see if anyone needs help, or anything I can fix. :)

NOTE: DOWNLOAD THE FILES BELOW. SOMEONE FIXED THEM FOR ME. :)

Jean :)

You should zip the houses and models seperately for ease of sorting after download. It's much easier to unzip them straight to the appropriate folders if you do that. If things get put in the wrong ones they just don't work.

There is a problem with the file in the custom content thread btw.

Also, any models or houses in the custom content thread are free for anyone to use, so no need to ask. :D

Just downloaded this, but there are only houses in it. Where are the gazebo and arches? They need uploading too in the folder that you made for them. Otherwise people will just see grey pllars where the models should be.

This seems more complicated than it is, but it will soon seem simple. Keep persevering. :D

Had a look at the level. The bottom right house is a normal one, should it be gingerbread? Whatever number house it should be, that number icon in the editor should be place to the left of the arrow for that house.

I'm just getting pillars where the models should be, see above.

The level itself looks cool though, and none of the above stops it from being played. :D :D

I haven't been able to figure out how to sort these files into separate folders and get them zipped up that way. I have WinRAR, PowerArchiver and WinZip, and check saving file paths, including subfolders etc... and still I open it up and its separate files. Just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Have tried with all three programs everything I can think of.

As far as one house showing up normal... I checked my lv5 file in the editor, and it shows the house # to the left of each of the houses. Are you sure you hve 4 house files in CustomHouses/Gingerbread ?

Will re-upload the file in CustomModels that you said seems to be corrupted.

Let me know if I'm actually fixing anything here. :)

Found out why I couldn't see house number 4. There was a space between the 'house' and the '4' in the file name. The minutest thing wrong can cause havoc.

The folder in custom content now just contain the model files and not the house files. Is that what you intended?

What OS are you using. If it's Windows XP then it has it's own zip facility so use that one. It's much easier.

What you should be aiming for is this....

The house files go in the folder you named in the editor, in CustomHouses.

The models go in the folder you named in the editor, in CustomModels.

These both show up in your level on your machine.

Find these folders, one at a time, and zip them. If you use Windows zip tool it will create a copy of the folder and zip that. So you will then have the original folder and the zipped folder. You can then move the zipped folders to somewhere else, say My Documents, ready for upload.

In your post, browse to find these zipped folders, and attach them one at a time, to your post along with your level.

That's all there is to it. It is then up to others to unzip them in the correct place.

It's as easy as that. Perhaps using Winzip is causing some problems. :?

I've just had a look inside the zip file above. It's a complete mess. :?

There are things in there that shouldn't be, and things that should be that aren't. There is a document and settings folder in there. :? :?

If you tell me what the names of the folders are that you used in the editor, I will put all the relevant files together into folders, zip them and upload them for you. You can then see what goes in each folder.

I want you to be able to do this Jean, and I will keep on and on till you get it right, whether you like it or not. :P

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not criticising you, I really want to help. :D :D

I've just finished unzipping these and sorting them into folders named Gingerbread, one for the houses and one for the models. The arch and the gazebo and one gingerbread house (in the middle) are all showing up fine :D :D :D . The other houses are game standard.

This is extremely ambitious for a first level Triana - quite apart from having the guts to use models, the actual puzzle is very difficult (for me anyway  ) One day I may complete it, but it will take a long time ...

Very well done.

Well done Poops - any chance you could post the zipped model file because I can't see any models. I have sorted the houses - they are fantastic Triana! I would like to play the level in the intended way

Thanks :P

I shall be patient and wait until everything is sorted out. Another way of putting it would be 'LAZY'.

Poopascoopa knows her stuff Jean, you won't go wrong there. Just let her be the boss if it makes her happy, poor soul has nothing else to do.  :P

Right I've sorted it out now.

There wasn't a thing right with this, no wonder you've been having trouble.

Firstly, you had the same name for both folders - 'gingerbread'. This doesn't matter on your own machine, but when you try to get the folders together to zip them, you can't have two with the same name. I've changed them now to gingerbreadh for houses and gingerbreadm for models.

Also, the name of the level in the editor wasn't the same as the name on the level you uploaded. Somehow, you got the level name and title mixed up. Sorted that out, the level is now called 'candycanes'.

I've put the houses in one folder and the models in another folder and zipped them. The gazebo now has all 3 texture files with it.

If you download and unzip these you will see how they need to be arranged for it all to work properly.

These folders and level are to replace the ones above. :D :D

Thanks to Popo for sorting everything out. The level is indeed a "sight to behold" -- now if I could just complete it everything would be "hunky dory".
Triana, you did a great job -- KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Gosh Jean, you have really put some work into these houses.
They are magnificent! Well done to you, I could eat them.

Haven't completed the level yet, I'm apt to get lost in mazes for a long time.

Good luck with all your modelling skills, look forward to seeing more from you.

I've changed the gazebo texture to give it more contrast (white painted wood on the railings). Makes it a bit easier to see and a bit more realistic. Just replace the Oak.jpg in your CustomModels file with this one. :)

CandyCanes *** SPOILER ***

Post by Triana » Fri May 06, 2005 6:51 am

The maze is a bit of a stinker! :) However, the only hazards are 6 spikes,
which you can see. There are a few deadends, and one thing added
just to throw you off.

I'll give a quick overview of the order you need to do things in to complete this
puzzle... If you need more specific info, will give the total spoiler
below. Also have added .jpg files to study.

1) Eliminate the z-bot in the lower left corner, using a box.
2) Trap the boingy on the penninsula using a rock and box.
3) Kill the kabooms with boxes.
4) Collect coins in the lower puzzle.
5) Complete the maze, and collect the one rainbow coin there.

CANDYCANES.LV5 should be saved here: CustomLevels/JeannieWI/

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a total spoiler...

Go left with Loof and push the rock into the water. Collect coin from
house.

Eliminate z-bot with box:
Push lower box left 1 to send z-bot into water.
Collect coin from next house (first move on aqua path).

Trap the boingy on penninsula:
Move Peague up in house to collect
coin. Then move the lower left rock into position in front of the left green
gate (purple path). Collect the coin bottom left and stand onto the green
button.

Eliminate the torch by rolling the rock over it. Move around and push the
rock into the water. He's still safe as the coin is holding the boingy back.
Have him move the bottom box right out of the way (2nd move on the
aqua path), and the top box into position right in front of the gate (1st
move on green path).

Now you need to be a little quicker. Have Loof go around and grab the
coin and get off the penninsula. Quickly switch to Peague and move him
off the green button. This may kill the boingy, but the following way is
safer.

Move Loof back around to the box. Peague will step on the green button
again, and Loof will push the box onto the penninsula to block the boingy
from escaping (2nd move on green path). Move Loof around again and
push the box forward to push the boingy onto the yellow button. If he
was killed by the gate, just move the box onto the button.

Loof can now collect the 8 coins in the upper forest and in the last house.
Now move him down and around toward the lower right entry arch. Note
the look of annoyance on the boingy's face now that he can't move. :D

Eliminate the kabooms:
First do a quick slide around the gazebo to clear the coins. Kill one kaboom by
trapping him with the box between the tree and mushroom (red path).
Kill the other by trapping him between the tree and exit fence (blue path), grab
the rainbow coin, and jump on the conveyor belt going left.

The Maze:
Enter the maze on the back wall in this forest. It is, indeed, a maze.
However, there are only 6 hazards in there (all spikes which you can see
). There are a few trails leading nowhere. There is a red button and gate,
but that's only to throw you off... it does nothing. :)

I believe there are 29 coins and 1 rainbow coin in the maze. All you have
to do is find them. You can then head for the exit.

If you get to the exit and discover you don't have all the rainbow coins,
you can move up and left to push the button, then right and down to enter
the main area of the puzzle. This is where you killed the second kaboom.
This is just a shortcut back rather than trying to find your way all the way
back through the maze.
