Donwloading custom content (a Windows question)

Post by Amnon » Sun Mar 30, 2008 9:22 am

This has started recently, after getting some Windows(XP) updates:

I normally load the levels into "CustomLevels", but from time to time there is a texture/model/house/background to take. Because I don't want to change the default download location of "CustomLevels", I use "Open" instead of "Save", then I click "Cut", "Favourites --> CustomTextures" and "Paste" there.

Recently, after pasting (successfully), I get an annoying error-message and sound saying "Nothing to do" and I cannot close the temporary-download window until I click "OK" to it.

Why? what's wrong?

Don't know what's wrong, but it's a strange way to download the custom stuff. You could just click open, then when the window opens click extract all, then browse to where you want to put them, and click ok. It will then put them in the right place, in a folder ready for use in the game, no messing and no double folders. :D

Thanks, I started with XP-SP1, but then I constantly receive automatic updates. Where is Mette's site? does he have a fix for downloading zips?

I could "Save", but then I will lose the setting of "CustomLevels" and have to go back there, which is 90% of the downloads.

Pauline, thank you: the problem is that Windows does not ask me where to Open - it places the texture/background/house/model in a temporary directory and opens a window in that directory. If I was only asked, then of course I would specify CustomTextures (or whatever).

I don't use IE but I do use Firefox. Within Firefox is a download "box" so to speak and you can choose which folder is your default folder. Now if you don't download anything else much you can set the CustomLevels folder as your download folder. Then anything you download will go there, then when it's done a box pops up and you can choose "open" and then extract them all.

This way your download location won't change. BUT everything you download will go there then you have to move it if it's a model or house or something entirely not Wonderland.

I have Firefox ask me where to download every time. It's only a few clicks and so far I'm not too lazy to click a few times hehehe I'm gettin' there but not quite yet!

You should have SP2 not SP1 for XP. SP2 has been out a couple of years and there are updates for that now.

Using Mette's site (who is female btw) is no different from downloading from here except that you can do it in bulk rather than one at a time. The link is http://wonderland.nutters.dk/

When you click OPEN it does download it to temporary files, but you should get the option to Extract All Files in the left pane, then the extraction wizard will open to ask you where you want to extract to.

Thank you Pauline - "Extract all files" works, I never saw that option before.

Rescuefire: nice to hear that you have Firefox.
I also use Firefox, but on Linux - there I am the expert, but Windows is not my territory, I am a novice there and just use it for Wonderland and a few other things that cannot be done on Linux. This is also why my Windows computer is so slow and when there are too many flickering objects my keyboard does not respond very well... I am afraid that I probably also don't have enough disk-space on my Windows machine for another browser.

I don't suggest using SP2, there are LOADS of problems of your Hardware,Software, etc.

So If you play games that are not Wonderland,I suggest you better not using SP2

Most games and newer software require SP2 with WinXP so that's not really the greatest advice. It's a needed Service Pack for that operating system.
