I think it is only in the CSS3 standard that the transparent colour option is available, so it will probably only be supported by very recent browser versions. I'm using Firefox 3.0.1.

So it looks like matching to a known background is still the most practical method for now, although I still think that transparent is conceptually better.
No.
It will just make some users be able to look at the answer without highliting it up.

Not the exact colour, but still nice. The exact colors were found by dlcs, I think?

"conceptually better" means CONCEPTUALLY. The concept of transpared is much better than matching colors, but as for now, few to none browsers can support it. So for now matching remains the most practical solution, but the time will come...
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

No, they were from Blast!10 in page 1 of this thread.
EDIT: Okay then, it must have magically disappeared to another thread. :?

I believe the post background colours are #EFEFEF and #DEE3E7. Quote and code boxes are #FAFAFA.
These are the exact colours as specified in the CSS for the page.
