Help me Midnight Synergy, I am desperate!

Post by popo » Sun Nov 21, 2004 4:03 pm

I still can't send attachment in PMs, even tiny ones only 20kbs big. I get the same message every time telling me my attach box is full, or the recipients attach box is full or both attach boxes are full. I regularly clear my message boxes so they are lying to me.

How come some people can send things like the chain levels and I can't send anything.

I've had to go back to emailing things and it's not fair. :P :x

Cat and JG seem to be having the same problem.

It's very strange Pauline, hope MS gets you sorted out.

It must have something to do with all the models I've uploaded, but there has to be a way to clear things out and start again. Or should I get an extra username and log in as that when I want to send attachments? It would have to be popo2 or something so people would know it was me. I think you are allowed to have multiple usernames.

I think that too. Take a look at your attachement control panel (you find it it viewing your profile) and see if the quota is near 100%. If yes, that can be the reason and surely has to do with many models you've uploaded, like jg, who is having the same problem.

I don't think Cat has uploaded anything and she has the same problem.

Can't see anyone objecting to you having another username, it's not as though you're trying to fool people.

Give it a go, see how you get on.

Don't forget to let us know the outcome.

Good luck

As I have said before, the only way I can send an attachment in a PM is to log on under littlejgs name. Then I have no problem. I can send PMs as myself, just not with attachments.

jg

I have only 13.85MB out of 150MB.

I've gotten that too JG. When I first tried to send the Chain Level, It said:

<The attachbox of Janetgalle is full. Also please be informed that the attachbox of Loof101 is full. If you are loof101, empty your attachbox and contact JanetGalle that his/her attachbox is full, so they can empty it.>

The message title is:

<Error Message>

As soon as I got the level sent, I got another message:

<You cannot send any more messages with attachments.>

What is going on NOW? MS, try to detect this virus fast! Our attachments are waiting to move!

This is not a "virus".

I've poked around in the attachements lists, a few of you had an extra few attachements in there, which I've now deleted. This might make the difference for popo, although I can't find anything wrong in jg's list.

popo - disregard my pm, try first if it works now.

jg - can you pm me your login password so I can check what it looks like from your side?

davidmad - can I scrap the attachments for your pm's? I see you have quite a few, that might be why Cat can't pm you attachments.

EDIT: also note that the attachements include both posts and pms. For posts you have (I believe) 150 MB - which should be plenty. Pms only get 256 kb total - so you can't keep attachments hanging around too long in there as it fills up quickly.

Thanks Patrick. I'll give it a try and let you know.

256kbs is not much, most of my models are more than that. It's fine for sending levels but not models. As long as I know, it's not a problem, I'll carry on emailing them.

The thing that's niggling me though is that it tells me to delete my attachments when there aren't any there, I delete all messages once they have been sent including attachments. So my message boxes are always virtually empty.

I don't understand this Patrick, my attachment box reads 0%.

My inbox usually has to be cleared every second day, therefore the attachments are deleted at the same time.

If you can see attachments, feel free to delete.

jg - thanks for the login - I logged in and sent myself a picture attachemnt - no problems! :? Try again, maybe cleaning out the other attachments helped you as well.

davimad - i found two more that I cleaned out.

I think what might be happening is that sometimes attachments aren't deleted properly (i.e. by the system, nothing to do with you) leaving the file but no pointer to the file, if that makes sense.

How exactly does the attachment control panel work?

If I delete things from it will they disappear off the forum. For instance if I delete one of the models I've posted, will that model no longer be available for download on the board, or will it only have been deleted from my control panel?

And where are attachments in PMs kept? Do they go into the same control panel or somewhere else? It would be handy to be able to see what's there and delete them myself.

That is too wierd. I tried to send one this AM and got the ususal message.
I just now sent you a PM with an attachment (zip file) and it went right through.

After every session of Wonderlanding (or just general computering) I always go to internet options and click on delete files and delete all offline content, since my computer doesn't have much disk space. I always empty the recycle bin and leave things ship shape for my net log on. Where else would these files be hiding?

Thanks for your trouble. I guess I can live with "sometimes it works....sometimes it don't."

Deleting a file in the attachment control panel will remove it from the forum - so that is not recommended for anything posted (your levels/models/etc would be gone). However you can delete attachments if you see them listed as attached to private messages - assuming the recipient doesn't use that attachment anymore.

Glad it seems to be working. Popo, any luck for you?

I've seen other forums that uses the same system (phpBB) as Wonderland's boards, and they too have similar problems with attachments not deleted on the system properly. Sounds like a bug.

Not tried it yet, but like I said before, most of the attachments I want to send are bigger than the 256kbs allowed so I will have to keep emailing them. It's no hardship now that I know what was wrong, and if I know that the attachments go into the same place I'll keep checking to see if there are any that can be deleted.

Thanks for the help. :D

If it is a bug we could report it in the phpBB support forums: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/

and maybe they would fix it. :D
