New version of RTW!!!!

Post by BIGZIPZ » Fri Mar 05, 2004 10:30 pm

Sorry to get your hopes up ;) - is there actually gonna be a new version? v1.01 seems to be the last one, anyways I have a couple of things that would be nice in new versions (i actually got one of my ideas included in a game called marble blast gold! GO ME!)

Anyways....................

Mark's ideas

A larger variety of switches/teleporters/gates etc, having colours is fine but the number available can be insufficient for those big big levels ;)

Ability to add height - this may not even be possible on the engine, but an example.. The other day I made a new level which included a volcano, sadly as I am limited to one block of height it was dubbed "the smallest volcano in wonderland"

Spikes on different surfaces, If i lay down spikes, it always has the same bog standard surface under them, why not let me lay down spikes with lava surface, or poking out of the ice

Chompy! please include things such as option to allow Chompy to walk over ice etc. (Also his tracking subroutines need improving)

------------------------*---------+

----
+ = Chompy
* = me

If i were to walk round that corner he would not follow unless he was farely close to me, he would attempt to walk acroos through the solid wall to get to me.

Different lenghts of time on items - eg timed switches always go off using the default value, why not have several with different values on. Sometimes I may want to leave a smaller gap after one is pressed, others longer etc..

More conveyor control - control speed - make it so one brown switch does not control EVERY conveyor, perhaps unique numbers?

More notes/signs - currently only 5, more would be nice.

These are just a few of my suggestions ;) please dont all shout at me and say im asking for too much, because this is how software updates/addons/fixes etc happen.

Please add your suggestions for improvements.

This has already been talked about in a previous thread.

Midnight Synergy made it clear that while they would consider all these suggestions, they will not be available as a new version of RTW, but more likely in a future game like RTW II or what not. This even includes suggestions like fixing those weird glitches the game has on your "Bad-Time Bay" level for example.

Their explanation is that adding new type and variety of game elements, or even fixing glitches with existing game elements, will require them to re-test all of the official RTW levels to make sure they still work, that the new stuff hasn't introduced some new problems with the official levels. Obviously this is more work than they'd care to do for a mere update of RTW, which they can't make money off of. So anything along the lines of adding new game elements (even if similar to already existing elements) or even fixing old glitches will probably be deferred until RTW II comes out, when they can financially justify the amount of time they'll have to spend in re-testing all the official game levels.

But don't let that discourage you from making suggestions along those lines. As I said, they said they'll still read the comments and consider it when they get around to making RTW II or the like.

(Disclaimer: the above is entirely my own view, which is based on what I've read in this forum, including some posts by Midnight Synergy itself. It is not endorsed by Midnight Synergy in any way.)
