Please do not "flood" the forum.

Post by Midnight Synergy » Wed Mar 17, 2010 2:10 am

This message is for all, but in particular for Blink, as (s)he is doing this right now... please don't post dozens of messages a day with little content by bringing up topics from months or even years past. A couple of times is ok, but otherwise it is really considered spamming.

Strive for quality of posts, not quantity.

I am truly sorry for pestering you, and possibly others.

I will discontinue to post in this manner, and are my comments spam?
For the necroposting, I understand, but my numerous comments were related to the topic, not spam.

If I am incorrect, would you please address the nature of why it is considered spam?

My inference: Well, now that I see it, I have been posting A LOT, since I am bored.
That, and you see every 'last post' is by me. So that is considered spamming.

One last thing: Sorry as well for this additional post, I could just have acknowledged your post. :?

Hi Blink,

The main point (for me) is that many of your comments added to some very old posts don't really add anything. If a topic hasn't been discussed in a looong time, it should really only be brought up if there was a really interesting or necessary comment to add.

Imagine if every user posted dozens of messages relating to threads from years back - the forum would be complete chaos.

All I ask is to keep things in moderation. If you find a post and really have something to add, that's not a problem.

Thank you for clearing things up.
I would also like to know one thing- about how old does a topic have to be until posting in it becomes unnessecary?

Again, there's no hard and fast rules. If you find something really worthwhile adding to, then a post from 2003 is fine! If it is just a "me too" comment, then it's not worth posting.

There's a good guideline here:
If you have something to add to the discussion, then it's fine. If you don't, then posting in very old topics is considered "thread necromancy".

Blink is actually far better than some "thread necromancers" I've seen on other forums.
Rest in peace, Kym. I hardly knew ya.
Rest in peace, Marinus. A bright star, you were ahead of me on my own tracks of thought. I miss you.

Just a side note, on WonderForum the bumping rule is as follow:
-Bumping
Do not bump a thread more then once every 24 hours. Bumping a thread where the last post is more then one month old is considered spam and will be deleted and the thread will be archived. Moderators of WonderForum will also judge if the post is considered spam.

Sorry for my inability to comprehend certain internet terms, but what is Bumping?

From my inferences, I deduct it is just saying 'BUMP' in your thread that has been dead for a week or so, just to get people back it in again.

And by moderators, do you mean administrators? So far, I have only seen Midnight Synergy (Patrick) moderate and post in these forums, as an administrator.

Moderators have more control over the forum than regular users (can delete, lock, move, split topics etc.) but not as much as administrators (can't add smilies or word censors, can't change the forum title, etc.)

Currently there are no moderators on the forum, but Mr. P is considering assigning moderator roles.

So, is there any other administrators than Patrick, or has Patrick got loads of accounts?

And also: This says that the guests are posting messages, but then I see no messages.

It must be some glitch, because he has been "posting a message" for about three and a half hours now.

Well, if it is, it's fixed now.
Remember to look at the dates that every post is made. It's been many years, and I, and others, may not be the same people we were when we made them. This is a symbol of where we came from, and should be remembered as that.

Another error: It shows that you are posting a message, even though you are not. Other than when I was typing this message, it said "Blink" was posting a message, when I was browsing.

And it was pertaining to the current exact time.

Yeah...this topic should be stickied and locked, due to many off-topic posts.
*AHEM* I'll stop now.

I think the forum software keeps an "average" of activity for the last hour or so. That's why someone might be still listed as "posting", even if they're long done.

But you're right on your other point, this thread has run its course and should really be locked.
