Reinstalling Issues

Post by dylan1298 » Thu Jan 20, 2011 5:00 pm

I am having trouble reinstalling Secret Worlds. Norton keeps telling me that a file is a trojan.gen. I disabled norton, reinstalled, enabled norton and it still won't play. I have run everything from norton, to malware, to spyware, and i do not have an infected computer so why is norton telling me that secretworlds is a trojan. I have never had this happen before, I have reinstalled and played lots since it's release. I am running Norton 2010 with a Windows Vista for anyone who can help me out.

Secrets worlds installer might have been infected by virus before. Upload your file to virustotal.com, and tell us the results.

Or you can simply get another copy from MS.

Hey Dylan,
I have moved my original copy of WSW (Direct from Midnight Synergy when we finished making the game.) from computer to computer. I have had Windows 98, XP, Vista and Windows 7. The only problem I have had with WSW was with Vista.
My anti virus back then was from PC Tools. Said I had your same trojan.
The first time my scanner gave me a warning, I didn't ignore it, then of course, the "trojan" and the whole WSW.exe file was removed, so WSW wouldn't work. So I used my last good restore point to get WSW back, then put WSW.exe on the exempt from future scans list. Everything worked alright again. Scary thing to say "I don't believe this is a trojan", but that is what I did. I believe it was a Vista thing. NO scans on 98, XP, or Windows 7 has ever reported the trojan.

That is my story, don't know if any of my rambling helps or not.
Good Luck.

Yes it did, I finally figured out what I wasn't doing. I did put in the scan exclusions box, and norton was still removing it. Then I realized I need to put it in the real time protection exclusions box as well. Finally did the trick, I am playing again.
By the way, it is so odd to playing this again with only a keyboard. I just played advenures and mystery island, trying to figure out that whole message thing from the post, using mostly the mouse with a few key strokes hear and there.
Can't wait for the 3rd one, come on Patrick, get it done!

I emailed Patrick and here is his reply:
Hi Janet,

It's something odd with certain Antivirus programs. Some flag WSW as a virus, although it clearly isn't. Not sure why - I have luck with some companies getting them to remove WSW from their list, but not with others.

Patrick
