Feeling incredibly dumb! :)

Post by Triana » Mon Apr 25, 2005 6:07 pm

I've played probably 100 levels so far. As I play, I come up with ideas of my own, so I started looking into the editor. I got all the way to Tutorial 2, created the level, tried to play it and was immediately stuck. I keep running into this problem.

In the Tut2 that I created, there are coins behind a wall, two patches of water leading to them (each of them having 2 water tiles), and two boxes right next to the wall. HOW can that be accomplished? You can't move the boxes away from the wall!

If I remember correctly, one of the editor tutorials has an error and can't be done. If I were you I'd move on to the next one and raise your eyebrows a few times.

Yeah, I realized as soon as I started the 3rd tutorial, they added extra boxes and made it workable. :) What was it I was reading on the forums here about testing your levels? :)

I'm still a little confused about the differences between custom levels classic and custom levels deluxe.

Also I love to create graphics. Is there any way to create new floors, walls, monsters etc. for the game? Are there any posts on that? I've done a little searching and haven't found anything on that yet. Seems no matter what I search for, I just find tons of new levels people have created. :)

If you've got RTWDeluxe you can make models etc for the game, but nothing that moves. See the Custom Content forum for what's been done up to now.

There are tons of 'Advanced' levels to download from the deluxe forum that have added models and grahics.

If you go to the Custom Content forum that can get you started with Custom Houses and Custom Models. Custom Houses allows you to create different exteriors for the houses. Custom Models allows you to create different non-movable objects. For Custom Models you can sometimes use public domain models and adapt them. Or you can create them from scratch. People have used this to create custom floors (even things as different as a floor that looks like a Monopoly Board -- I can't refer you to a specific posting off the top of my head but if you search through the Custom Content forum, you will find all kinds of interesting things.

You will need a 3-D modeling program, many people have used Milkshape which can be downloaded off the net, but others will work as well.

If you have an interest in graphics, you will undoubtedly have a lot of fun with this. There are some pretty creative people in that forum (not me) so it would be great to have you putting new content out there. Don't hesitate to post questions there if you are having any problems. One thing that trips up a number of people is posting it so others can use it. Not hard, but a couple of tricks, so don't hesitate to ask.

So far, no ability to create moveable objects or monsters -- maybe in the next version?
