Annoying bug with Level Editor?

Post by bpurcell » Mon Dec 29, 2003 5:29 pm

Hi,

We've been enjoying Return to Wonderland, but there is an annoying bug I'm wondering if others see.

Whenever I use the level editor and then exit the editor, there is still a tab left on my taskbar labeled "Editor". When I click on it, the screen blacks out for a second then goes back to my desktop, and the tab disapears. If I edit mor than one level, there will be multiple tabs left on the taskbar, and I have to click on each one to get rid of them. It doesn't seem to affect my system any other way.

I have Windows XP, Athlon 2600 Processor, 512MB RAM.

Yes, I've noticed this as well. From what I understand, it has something to do with it being a 16-bit program. Tried to tweak the registry to make the program operate in its own memory space, but this didn't fix the problem. However, you can close these multiple programs a bit easier by opening the task manager (by right-clicking task bar or using control, alt, delete) and closing them out from there.

Perhaps someone at Wonderland has a fix for this.

I also had the same problem going between RTW & the Editor - ended up with lots of those tabs. I solved the problem by opening RTW, minimizing it, then opening the editor. Then I use Alt-Tab to go between the two applications - works great!

I'm not sure what's causing this bug on some machines - hopefully we can find a fix. If we can't (and for the time being) I would second both suggestions made above - either just keep all the tabs (they will not slow down your system) and delete them all at the end with ctrl-alt-del or run one copy of the editor and the game, preferably both in windowed mode, and just keep switching back and forth - that is BTW also the quickest way to edit and test and re-edit a level.

Best,
Patrick

It happens to me too. Just close it. :)

Wait, i think I figured it out!

The editor is like a creoter lego game. It takes it like any other game, and reads a tab of it to desktop toolbar. then, even though you exit, it hasn't removed the tab, 'cause it dosen't read you log out of editor.

This also happens if you have another window appear; the editor goes down, and the new window appears. EXCEPT the difference is that when the new window appears, and you click on level editor tab, it goes back to creating ure level!

Of course, this is just a theory!
