Wow!!

Post by sfseaman » Mon Jan 16, 2006 6:48 pm

So, I've been taking a break from the world of Wonderland while I was pursuing some other things that I needed to attend to and I just stopped by to see what was up. . .

I love the Platinum additions! I fear (and my wife fears) that I may have to drop other things to devote my attention here again. So many things to learn and use, so little time. . .

I have a question, and please forgive me if this has already been discussed at length. Is there any naming convention for levels utilizing 3D first person perspective? These levels obviously have a whole different feel, some people may really like them, others may not. I would like to be able to find any levels of this type already posted by others, but would also like to know the best way to name any levels I may upload.

Hiya Steve, nice to hear from you again. I was just talking about you and your Fog model this afternoon.

There are a few 3D levels but not all of them say so in the subject line so you'd have to look at the posts to see.

There doesn't seem to be any consistent way of naming them but you could use the same thing as for models by putting 'New level (3D) - level name'.

It seems from reading posts that most people find the 3D option makes them feel sick, it certainly takes some getting used to.

Hope you're back for a while now. :D

Hi Pauline -

Nice to hear from someone familiar so quickly. I agree that the first person perspective is a lot different. I guess that was why I was wondering about a naming convention. I think your idea of putting (3D) in the subject line, similar to the (Advanced) notation for custom content is a good one. Perhaps people will begin to use it, so that those who are attracted to these levels can find them, and those that don't can avoid.

I suspect there may be a slightly different approach to level design to make the levels fun, interesting, challenging, but still playable. I am hoping to find some time to begin playing with this (as well as all the other new features in Platinum).

Hi Steve, nice to see you again. :D

Hope all is well with you and the family, not forgetting the animals of course.

Personally, I don't like the 3D but it's a good idea to put it in the title.

Have fun with all the new toys, looking forward to your creations. 8)

Cheers.

Hi Steve - welcome back. I hope you and your family are all well. The Platinum Edition has brought us all many hours of fun - no doubt when you get accustomed to all the new toys you will be back making stinker levels again

It's good to have you back! :P

I can see that part of my challenge will be to come up with some 3D levels that will allow all of you to see their beauty. Are there any other 3Ders out there? Mette - I seem to recall you had some interest (is that right, or am I confused)?

Thanks for the warm welcomes

Hi Steve,

Welcome back :D It's good to "see" you again

You remeber correctly. I was very interested and keen on getting the first person view. Now that it's here, I'm not so sure what I think about it  I haven't had a lot of time to play around with it either, so maybe it's just a question of getting used to it. Who knows? Maybe it will grow on me :D :D :D

Hello Steve - nice to see you back again

Seem to remember you made real stinker levels,
certainly ones that I couldn't play :!: :!: :!: :!:

(and no, I don't like 3D) so I think naming them in the title would be a very good idea.

Hope we see lots of you in the future. Have fun with all the new toys.

Hello, I am one of the new ones, so don't remember you. But, welcome back!

I am one of the very few who like 3D. It was a little dizzying at first, but it doesn't bother me now!

Look forward to some of your levels!

Another cheesehead!!!!

And you like 3D! Must be something in the water. Have you designed any 3d levels? If so, let me know the name. I just finished a first try and would appreciate your feedback.

I would like feedback from those of you who don't like 3D also. I have a feeling that if we get the design differences right, more people might enjoy them as a change of pace.

Yes, a cheesehead!

I haven't designed any 3D levels. I have only done 4 levels, one of them a kids level. I just did your level, and commented on it.

Look forward to more!

Hey Steve,
I have made exactly 1 3d level so far:

If used correctly I think the first person 3d effect can be fun, but most of the time it disorients me too much.
