I often use Milkshape (http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/) which I think has a 30 day demo...

Sweet, Im 99.9% positive we have this at college, on some of the computers in the technology suite, the techie guy is cool too, he has a very liberal interpretation of the words SITE LICENSE, should be able to get a copy on my PC at home.

Don't worry, it's common for people to ask for software from my college to use at home.

We can take software home that the college has site licenses for IF we are working on it in a course (I wonder if my account has been removed from the technology network, I dropped off the course along time ago)
Mind you, the head of computing used to let people take copies of Turbo Pascal home, *ponders* The admin guy who runs the tech department is so corrupt he sells copies of AutoCad, and bootleg DVD's. It was more strict when I was in high school, I remember we had windows 98 on about 10 pc's and 95 on the rest, each PC had to have its own copy though, so we got lumbered with windows 95 :(

I'll have to have a chat with Mr Vodden, my old teacher on the course, I don't think he will begrudge letting me have a copy of the cd, providing I bring it back, affterall I imagine the license he pays for the software costs several thousand pounds. I'll have to have a word.

I do my bit for shareware, actually I do a damn lot heh. Check out all my registered games! Wonderland is special so it sits on the desktop :P

I fired up the editor today and something shot out at me! there is a certain snappy nasty in wonderland, which will either target Stinky and Ignore Loof, or vice versa. With the indroduction of 4 characters on screen at one time, will there be 4 colours each targetting a specific player?

Yes and no... there are still only two chompers, but their "preferences" can be used in a variety of combinations. In essence the red chomper will go after (in decreasing order of preference) Stinky, Loof, Qookie, and Peegue, whereas the yellow chomper will follow Loof, Qookie, Peegue, then Stinky.

(you also asked a few things in PM... I'll answer them here since others might have the same question)

3D Models: don't have to be houses, can be anything. So yes, you could make an airplane and put it in the level. Just note that it is a static object, not flying around. But you could make a "Stinky and Loof visit the Aircraft Hanger in Area 51" level.

# of gates, teleporters, etc. Yes, they are limited for basically the reasons you guessed - but more precisely it is because the number of clearly distinguishable colours is limited (esp. for the gates, which are "see-through"). I looked for a long time to find an eighth gate colour that wouldn't look almost like one of the other seven in a level, but couldn't find one - hence "only" seven coloured gates.

Oh, and I guess this post does contain one new piece of information for y'all, doesn't it? ;)

That is sweet! If only modelling 3d didn't take so long! do you agree Midnight Synergy, the best way to learn how to use 3d tools like Milkshape is to follow existing tutorials?

Yeah, tutorials are the way to go. Much more effective than going out and buying books etc. (IMHO)

Size? what about size? can I drop a massive b52 bomber on my level, and a big airport? or is there a limit to the size?

P.S due to the game running in real time, is that the reason it's not using much RAM?

No size limitations. Huge models or many many models might cause issues for slower computers (or older video cards), but that's already the case if you create gigantic levels with lots of stuff.

BigZipz, while you are celebrating Bank Holiday Monday (if indeed people do celebrate this occasion) here in the U.S. we will be celebrating Memorial Day. This is a day when, by law, you are required to go to the beach (at least where I live) where you must body surf, play volleyball and drink beer.

It's a tough job, but hey, someone's gotta do it and I believe in doing my share.

It's Bank Holiday Monday and at the moment (8.35am) it's brilliant sunshine and clear blue sky in Sheffield. Which doesn't happen very often incidentally. We're right at the side of the Pennines which means we get a lot of cloud if not rain. But on the bright side, we're only ten mintes drive away from the moors, and Castleton, that's a beautiful place with a lot of natural caves and caverns where people go potholing. :)

It's 3.55 in Sheffield, and it's not rained yet :D

It is cloudy though

My husband has to have Bank Holidays off because the building sites shut, but, being self-employed, he doesn't get paid so it's a bit of a bummer and nothing to celebrate. So we've spent the day visiting relatives. 8)

We have a dozen holidays when the banks close -- New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents, Memorial, Flag, Independence, Labor, Columbus, Election, Veterans, Thanksgiving and Christmas. But I'm not aware of any holidays just for the banks specifically.

We've been having bank holidays since before I can remember. I don't know what they were originally intended for, but they are always Mondays. Today is Spring Break, the first Monday in May is May Day, then at the end of August there's August Bank Holiday, and then if Christmas falls over a weekend, as it does this year, there are bank holidays to compensate, this year 27th & 28th December. Of course, they also shut for Easter Monday. The banks are shut that much I don't know how they make any money.

... and back to the game

Midnight Synergy wrote:
Yes, although it won't change gameplay (Stinky will just disappear inside the house). How this will work is that you can place larger objects, such as houses, or really large objects, such as your custom made castle, anywhere on the map in the editor. Then you'll be able to set tiles surrounding it as "walkable" or "not walkable". Put down a house (which sits on 3x3 tiles) and make all nine tiles "not walkable" and the house simply is decoration. Put it down and leave one tile open at the entrance, and Stinky can walk "into" the model. You could then also hide a coin, button, teleporter, etc, in that entrance way.

When you say surrounding it you mean the tiles that it's sitting on? And can we make any models walk-through-able?

For example at the really simplest level (me)...
a) skin a box & make it into a 'wall' & then have some of them as walkable to be able to go through them

b) skin a very low box (like ground level), make it walkable & hence a different floor tile or used to hide teleports, buttons etc - this would also give the option to make say grass, or reeds, or a creek bed etc that you could walk through - maybe put a sign underneath such a tile & hide it...

Robbie :D
