WA adventure timer and score

Post by chrise » Wed Mar 28, 2007 12:16 pm

Hello,

In Wonderland Adventures, how exactly is the score worked out? I guess gems and coins contribute to it, and the bonuses when trapping or killing monsters, but is there anything else? Does each adventure have a bonus score for its completion? Are points added based on the time you took to complete the level?

I have also noticed a couple of glitches with scoring/timing:

1. The time reported on the adventure completed screen seems to be the time since the adventure was last begun on the current run of the program. This means that, if you save and later load in an adventure, the time will not be reset to when you saved it. I once saved mid-adventure, left it running while I went and did something else, loaded the save and completed the level, and had a time of over 40 minutes. This also works the other way round: When I wanted to see the quest completion scene again, I loaded a game that I had saved just before collecting the purple shard and completed the level. On the adventure completed screen, it said that my time was 5 seconds! Perhaps the time should be based on the actual play time leading from start to completion? I know that would discount time spent trying things between saves, but this can be removed by replaying the level from Floing after you know what to do, anyway. Certainly, if the time goes towards the score, the ability to save just before completion and load on a new run of the program to get an ultra-short time should be removed.

2. If you repeatedly trap and release scritters, the bonus points seem to be added every time. I noticed this in the Pyramid. I haven't yet checked whether these points accumulate on your final level score, but if they do, the scoring system is effectively subverted, as you can add as many points as you like by replaying levels like Pyramid and repeatedly trapping and releasing.

Hi Chris:

The time score is calculated as 1000 - 5x(# of seconds used). So 1000 is the maximum time score attainable.

While the Scritters show the "100" graphic when trapped, only the first time is counted (I haven't tested this specifically in the Pyramid, but I know this was the design in general).

About the saving/loading - you're right, some could gain or lose points in that 1000 range by making very specific load/save states and using those repeatedly. I don't think it will affect most users' score very dramatically (given the narrow range per adventure).

Hope this helps,
Patrick
