Questions about Platinum

Post by Loirae » Sat Dec 17, 2005 10:38 am

Here's the first "why does it..." question. And if it's in the wrong forum, feel free to move it.

I had a kaboom generator (whatever it's called) and I only wanted one to come out, so I put walls around the other three entrances. when playing, once i killed off the first kaboom, the only thing that happened was the portal thingy kept spitting out the kabooms but they kept blowing up. Why can't I get just one? Or, how can I get just one?

Hi Loirae,

I just found the following in the updated editor instructions:
Warp Gates are to monsters what Box Generators are to boxes. Once all monsters of a matching type are gone, the warp gate will initialize and generate four new critters. Each critter behaves slightly differently immediately after warping, for example Kaboom!s must have four clear exits, or the explosion of one Kaboom! might destroy all four of them immediately.
Apparently the Kabooms must have four clear exits.

Loirae - this happens with barrel generators. The only things you can block them with are coins or clocks. I haven't tried it yet myself, but it might be the same thing, as Kabooms are explosive as well.

Try it out!

Next question.

I looked in the online editor's manual and didn't see an answer.

3-D (1st person view)
When other 3-d levels start up, the charater is lookind out toward the puzzle. when I place the tile on my level, When it starts up, I'm looking at the wall behind me at the bottom left of the puzzle. Is there a strategy to placing the tile so that the initial view is how I want it (Like placing style tales for houses, you have to pt it itn the right place to affect the house)?

Thjs sounds like an oversight to me. I know just what you mean. In an ordinary level the character is facing toward you not facing the way you are looking. Whereas in a 3D level you want them to face the way you are looking. Is there a way to place the character so he's looking up or sideways, not down as is the default?

Perhaps the only way round it is to place the character further into the middle of the field and plan your level with the fact that he starts it facing down in mind. Sounds complicated to me.

In the level where 3d is introduced in the platinum folder, stinky (or is it loof?) is at the bottom of the puzzle, but the view comes in and suddenly you see through his eyes, not behind him. So, it looks like it can be done.

Or maybe if opened in the editor, the whole puzzle is upside-down? And stinky is at the top of the screen? I'll have to go check that out.
<running off to open the editor>

EDIT: Yes, the puzzle feels like we are starting at the bottom(04-forest maze) but in the editor, the character is at the top. So, keep that in mind if you want make a level in 3-d mode and have the appearence of the looking up into the puzzle. Everything will seem inverted.

Another way of getting a character to face the way you want at the beginning is to have them on a conveyor tile pointing the way you want. That way, they are shot off the tile facing the right direction.

I tested it and he is facing toward the top. I think it is depending on where you place th 3d tile.
