Custom Levels and the Level Editor.

Post by ann3120 » Thu Jan 19, 2006 4:00 am

Please bear with me as I try to explain my question. I'm not a computer whiz, so I may be missing something simple, but also, if I'm having the problem, maybe some one else is as well.

I took this quote from Steve's thread about 3D levels. Gen said:
I will download a 3D level, try it, then go into to the editor and remove the 3D. I like the levels much better without 3D.
Originally, all the levels I downloaded were in a file called Custom Levels. If I wanted to look at some thing in the editor, it was always there - perfect !!

After I down loaded all the players files from Mette's web page, when I opened the game to play, I had to scroll down through all the players folders before I came to the new levels I wanted to play - bummer !! On the advice of other players, I created new folders for current levels, with names that would keep them at the top of the list - brilliant !!

OK - but now, when I open the editor, there's nothing there - bummer !! So, I have to move the level I want to look at, out of its current folder (which happens to be inside Custon Levels) and put it back into Custom Levels, so it's back at the bottom of the long list - bummer again !! It's not difficult to do (I drag it onto the desk top and then drop it where I want it) but it's a nuisance - super bummer !!

Is there another way to do what I want - it's not that I want to cheat on a level - Who, Me? Oh No, I just want to look, but I did manage to remove the 3D thingy on a couple of levels - double brilliant !!

If there's an easy answer, I'd really appreciate it. If it's complicated and needs a super computer guru brain - then thank you - but I guess I'll have to go on doing it the Old Granny way !!!!!

You're doing it the same way I do it. :D I still haven't found a way around it. To my knowledge, the editor doesn't allow you to browse folders, only look in the one that is the default.

But, I did make a shortcut on my desktop to the Custom levels folder so I can get there quicker to move stuff around. After I'm done with the level and save it, I go back to my folder which I left open and move it back to where it was.

Also, when you are in the game and want to get to a level quickly past all those folders at the top, you can type the first letter of the file and it will swing you down there. (For instance, say you want to open my level called Fix-It team. It's only the filename, not he cute name. So, you move it to the custom levels folder, then hit "L" and it will take you near it. You can't find my Fix-It Team by hitting "F" but you can by hitting "L" cause it's LOI20. )

Hope this helps.

Alas, no.

The editor does not allow you to browse through directories to open or save levels, it only looks in the root Custom Levels directory. That would be a nice thing to add to any future update.

Ann, I have my levels in each creator's fold, so I also have to move them from the creator's fold to the levels fold. Once I have removed the 3D feature, I generally play them from the levels fold. I have made an additional fold for "done" levels. This "done" folder also have folders for each creator. Once I have played the "3D modified" level, I move it to the right "done" folder. So I don't see any way to get around moving the level. Maybe someone else knows a better way. :D

Thanks - your answers are just what I thought.
Yes, Loirae, I also have a custom levels shortcut on my desktop.

After I finish a bunch of levels, or give up on them, I just delete them, because when I did Mette's download, they were all there with all the scores. That way, all one creators levels are in one folder, both done and still to do. Probably means they'll never get done because there are always too many new ones. If a spoiler is added to one that I really wanted to try again, I just re-download it.
