New Level - Peegue Poser 9

Post by malcdelsol » Sun Jan 02, 2005 10:12 am

Hi Wonderlanders,

Thought I would start the new year with a small and really tedious level

Hopefully someone knows or can solve the Poser question - answers in the Forum please

If the level gets on your nerves - just send it to the recycle bin

I also was able to complete this level, although I'm certain it was just dumb luck, as I persisted in the same moves repeatedly until it finally worked.

Good level.... thanks!

I completed the level too Malc, strange seeing those boxes all over the place. Weird Wonderland again!

The poser has me stumped, I have tried breaking the balls into groups of nine, two lots on the scales = 1 weighing. To cut it short, I don't know how to work the remaining nine. Hope you know what I'm talking about, I sure as blazes don't! :?

I just know I'm gonna kick myself.

Thanks again.

Yes! I managed to do it. :D
It wasn't tedious at all Malc - fun to do in fact.

The BALLS problem will take a lot longer :?

Balls? I say trade the scale for an x-ray machine and call it a day. There must be some REALLY easy thing that I just don't see as far as completing the level, as I have simply decided that Malc is EVIL!! What a mind!! Just what on Earth do you do for your REAL job??? ;)

Job???? This is his job, making un-doable levels to drive us all mad!!!!

I would fill the scales pan with water and put the balls in in groups of nine, and the one that doesn't float has the lead in it. :P

I think you must have to put two lots of 14 on the scales, if they both weigh the same the other ball is the one. If one lot is heavier, that lot contains the ball. Then you split that 14 into two lots of seven and weigh them, the heavier lot has the ball in it. Then split them again and take one out. Then weigh them again and if they weigh the same the odd ball is the one, but if one lot is heavier you can't weigh them again cos you've used all your goes. But as you're down to just 3 balls you'd probably be able to tell which it was.

Doesn't hold up really, does it. :?

Can't do the level btw, I have got a box out on two occasions, the rest of the time they end up breaking and I don't get any. Can't get the timing right.

Hi Teri,

From the day I left school I spent some 30 years working within the computer industry - enough to make anyone

I took early retirement so that Jan & I could move out here to southern Spain - so that gives me plenty of time to 'vent any anger' on ......

Hi popo,

Yes - sometimes I do get the feeling that Wonderland is a full time job  but whilst I enjoy it - I'll continue annoying you all

Your logic for the balls problem - you are quite correct in saying 'it doesn't hold up really' :D

Of all of your levels, I am able to solve maybe a quarter of them. This was another one that I was able to finish! Yea! I will keep trying on the other three quarters of them!

Now the answer to your poser question:

First you divided the 27 balls into 3 groups of 9, groups A, B & C.

Weigh groups A and B. If the scale is balanced, the heavier ball is in group C. If the scale is unbalanced, the heavier ball is in group A or B.

Divide the heavier group, say group C, into three groups of 3, groups C1, C2 and C3.

Weigh groups C1 and C2. If the scale is balanced, the heavier ball is in group C3. If the scale is unbalanced, the heavier ball is in group C1 or C2.

Divide the heavier group, say group C3, into three groups of 1, groups C3a, C3b, and C3c.

Weigh groups C3a and C3b. If the scale is balance, the heavier ball is in groups C3c. If the scale is unbalance, the heavier ball is in group C3a or C3b. Either way, you have identified the 1 heavier ball in just 3 weighings.

Thanks for the fun! You levels are always a challenge as well as your poser questions! Keep them coming! :D

Good for you Gen, you beat me to the post.

I was so pleased with myself solving this one, too late now though.

Next one please Malc.

Awww
I just solved it and rushed up to the computer to post the solution, but Gen beat me to it. :o  :o

Popo has a really neat lateral thinking solution

A nice little brain teaser Malc. You think it's impossible till you sit down with pencil and paper to think about it. 8)

Hi Gen & others,

YES - The correct answer to the poser question - and can I say Gen - explained most professionally

I'll have to put my brain into 'overdrive' - I'm obviously getting too soft with my levels (and posers)

Davimad and Liz, we all are winners together! :D :D :D

Malc, thanks for the compliment, but that's the only way I knew to explain it.

Please don't go into high "overdrive" or I may never have a chance again. Just when I think I have your logic down, you change it up on me and fool me again.

Great level! :D

Okay--I finally got the level complete--I go along with the "dumb luck"/"following the same pattern" theory. Haha!! What a mind!! :)

This, I found out, was all about timing and the sequence of the boxes going thru. Another masterpiece.

Don't make a run for the door    go the long way!
