RTW Contest - The "House of Games" Contest

Post by Tech Warrior » Sun Sep 12, 2021 8:58 am

!! ATTENTION !!
THIS IS A MANDATORY BRIEFING TO ALL CRYSTAL CITY RESIDENTS

“The House of Games has received fewer tourists than required for its preferred profit margin. On the previous Crystal Hazing Day, we only had six or seven total casualties at the annual Rage Roulette Rally (we don’t remember exactly, since of course we got bored). In order to bring more tourists into the city, we need to introduce new games! Visitors LOVE dumping their hard-earned coins into new and exciting things which may kill them! Our goal is to expand on this mission: a mission of love. Let’s work together to give the stinkers what they want: a higher reward for a higher risk. Prize for the most rewarding game is that you get a front seat on Hazing Day next cycle. Prize for the least rewarding game is, well, your ownership of shame that you will get on Hazing Day next cycle. Now then, help Crystal City do what it does best: manipulate the outsiders! But is it really a manipulation if we’re up front about it? Or is it a way to build their trust? Such is what they find out at the RRR.”

RULES:

1) Each minigame level must have a theme and general mechanic that governs the game. For example, are you building a maze which changes on each move? How about a board in which you must generate boxes in a correct order? Or an arcade level with some leveling-up stages to the arena (like the Wonderland Arcade levels in WA)? You can also do things in an “attraction” style – for instance, a rollercoaster you must setup correctly before starting, or perhaps a casino with some rules you must uncover through trial/error. These are just some general ideas for the minigame style!

2) The rules of the game must be clearly presented inside the level and themed towards Crystal City outsiders! Please feel free to use sarcasm and plenty of humor in how you narrate your game (no swearing please – that’s for Candor City, which to be candid, does not exist).

3) You must use the attached Crystal City texture, and the “City” background. Of course, if it is included in QFE, it will have these anyway. But save me time and energy – you are in Crystal City, after all!

NOTES:

It is OKAY if you have not played Crystal City yet, or any of Quest for the Five Elements! The nature of the contest is themed for this world, but nothing within the story of the series is spoiled here (I guess other than Crystal City’s existence?). Everyone is encouraged to participate in the games!

If you have QFE, feel free to reference the Crystal City levels for some ideas on the minigame concept we are going for (i.e. Mirror Maze, Bouncy House, Minesweeper, Morklin’s Believe It or Not, Matrix of Madness, The Red Room – these are all good examples, the names of which alone may be all you need to get the idea). Indeed, levels like “Matrix of Madness” and “Minesweeper” are pure minigame concepts, whereas levels like “Mirror Maze” and “Bouncy House” are more attraction styled. The rules are a little more lenient for the latter type of level, as it is your PRESENTATION that matters most! Take that into account when designing.

Get creative and have fun!! Deadline to submit is October 30, 2021. Please submit as many levels as you possibly would like. Crystal City really likes to make a good profit, and if you’re lucky, they may choose you for their annual Reward of Relative Regularity – this award means nothing, by the way, but is intended to allow participants to feel important to the Crystal City government (these rewards are mass produced, by the way).

REWARDS OF RELATIVE REGULARITY:

Judging process will depend on the number of submissions, quite frankly. But generally, I want to leave it to a public vote on the best-quality and most original/fun games (we will do a poll thread for this). I am looking to include these in the final release of Quest for the Five Elements as part of the series’ “House of Games” bonus content (this includes 30 additional minigame levels already, which you see have begun releasing, but as stated, the PROFIT MARGIN – also, I just want to get the community involved, really, because I know there is so much talent here!). Of course, even if there is not so much a contest as there is just participation with the community, I think that is the prize itself. The more quality games we get, the happier the city will be.

Until they get bored.

Long live the House of Games! Now get creating.

Hey there Tech Warrior, I'll see if I can find time to work on something for this. :)

Though, admittedly I have my own contest (Wonderland Adventures) and a few other projects going on right now, so I can't promise anything. <:)
Your only little stinker that's absolutely NOT a z-bot by this name,
Jutomi~

Also, if you want to see my level list, here it is! :D
(Also: List of Hubs, WA Manual)
Oh, and my YT wonderland channel. Forgot about that.

Thankfully the Crystal City governorate is quite understanding of busy schedules. For example, several residents were recently required to participate in a mandated survey describing their experience during the city's first "firestorm drill" (a drill which sets the city on fire to prepare residents for potential universal attack). However, these residents were recovering from the drill in a hospital, so the city was generous and chose not to execute them. Instead, these residents were given a neighborly Z-bot which prevents them from leaving their home.

Generosity is new for the city, but it's learning.
