You're using Milkshape aren't you?
The problem from the picture is that the model is way too big, and is laying on it's side.
First you need to make it smaller. Try 10% to start off with. Then you can rotate it 90 degrees around the x axis. I'm not sure if that will rotate it forwards or backwards, it needs to come forwards. If it goes backwards instead, just rotate it by another 180 degrees and it should be standing up.
As you have managed to get it into the game you must have saved it as a 3ds file. In Milkshape you choose Autodesk3DS from the export menu.
Did you ever download and read the tutorial that LinkyNStoof did? It's really good for helping you do the basic stuff like this.
