Confused in Vortex

I am in WSW, The Void, Trapped in Vortex....and am soooo stuck! I can get out of the rings, can get the bug guy into the next section but he keeps getting killed before he can get all 4 keys. What am I doing wrong?

Hint (higlight to read):
Get rid of all things that are dangerous before you let the Rainbow spirit enter the 2nd room....
