MAVs in Classic Trilogy

Post by sodapop! » Sat Feb 08, 2025 10:40 pm

I decided to replay the classic trilogy on my new computer but I keep getting MAVs in TOW and RTW. TOW worked fine at first with a couple MAVs here and there, but I keep getting MAVs a few seconds after I enter "Fish In A Barrel". In RTW, it also worked fine, but then it MAVed and now it MAVs as soon as I get to the Tutorial/Classic/Deluxe/Platinum select screen.

Oddly enough, WSW works fine as far as I can see. I managed to get past "Through The Hills" without a single MAV. Maybe the games are just too old for my computer. Still, I'd like to play the classic games without having to buy the new versions.

Edit: Okay, what the heck? I changed the window settings of RTW to higher than 800x600 and it worked until I closed the window, and now it started MAVing again.

Edit 2: Fullscreen doesn't work either. I have to change it to 1280x960, 32 bit, and Fullscreen for it to not say "Unable to set graphics mode", and even then, it doesn't work.

Edit 3: Now it's MAVing in WSW too! In "Temple Ruins", all of the signs other than the one at the beginning cause a MAV.

Memory Access Violation. Normally I associate these with out of bounds ranges for objects in the new trilogy's editors.
I didn't know the old trilogy's games can have them, and that sounds like corrupted files.

Maybe you need some compatibility tools. I'm not very versed in this but that's just my guess at a glance.
Not really around much these years.

Maybe use dgVoodoo2, this fixes many of the issues: https://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/
