Hi Mac.
A critter always wants to be at least 3 tiles from Stinky, no matter if it's only horizontal, vertical or diagonal. So if Stinky is in the middle of a 5x5 square, a critter want to go out of that square.
If the critter is on the same horizontal or vertical line with Stinky, it will move horizontal/vertical, but if it's not on the same line, it moves diagonal.
If there's something in the way, it will choose another way, but always away from Stinky.
A crab acts a little bit more complicated. If you walk to a crab, and you're 3 tiles away from it, it will stay. But if you go 2 tiles from the crab, it will walk until it's 4 tiles from Stinky. If you want the crab to walk only one step instead of 2, you should walk to 2 tiles from the crab, and immediately go back.
