Hah, I envy you. It's a day one purchase for me, and I was probably one of the most pessimistic people about it.

The reason why (apart from the fact that it's GOOD) is pretty spoilerish though.

Is this something about a Sonic game with "THREE STUNNING COLORS?"

I am excited now that I learned that Sonic Team finally listened to its audience and made a game "without any gimmicks". Finally nothing silly like a werewolf form, swordfighting, or robot fighting to slow the game down. Sonic games are supposed to be about speed!

To be fair, Unleashed was one of the best 3D Sonic games so far. Colors is basically Unleashed 2 - Werehog. Sonic and the Black Knight was... intriguing and worth checking out, but not worth a purchase for me.

As for Sonic 4... Shouldn't have called it Sonic 4. It just isn't. Like, at all.

Okay, having played through this for a few hours, I'd easily say this is my favorite 3D Sonic game and even my second-favorite Sonic game of all time.

That's a really big accomplishment in my eyes, because A) I'm a retro gamer at heart, B) I'm rather disappointed with almost every modern Sonic game released, and C) My all-time favorite Sonic game is Sonic 3 & Knuckles (held by some as the best Sonic game ever).

It's a pretty incredible game, and it harks back to some of the series' greatest moments. Also, the cutscenes are pretty hilarious:

Tails: "He says his name is 'Talks-a-lot' and he's from a far away soda where flowers water them with dances..."
Sonic: "Yeaaaah, uh... I think your machine still has some bugs."

Sonic: "NO COPYRIGHT LAW IN THE UNIVERSE IS GOING TO STOP ME"

Tails: "Oh, there you are [Sonic]. Where'd you run off to?"
Sonic: "Oh, did some shopping, grabbed a bite to eat, and trashed a giant killer robot."
Tails: "Oh? They have shopping here too?"

This game is awesome.
