Terraria - Like Minecraft But Different!

Recently I have found out about a game called "Terraria". It's like Minecraft, but 2D, and with what looks like a lot more to do. It started development in January, 2011 and is going to be released tomorrow on Steam, but will cost $10.

You can check out the website here: http://www.terraria.org/

You can look at a playlist of an LP by one of the game testers here (warning, possible swearing (?) in some videos): http://www.youtube.com/playlist?p=PLF53E053F06BA83D5

Looks like it was inspired by MC. It looks cool!
The monsters look insane though. :o

It's here! At least about 7 hours ago it was released!

Here's the Steam page where you can buy it ($10 for the first week of its release, prices after are unknown):
http://store.steampowered.com/app/105600/

Unfortunately until I can find some other way to pay for it other than a credit card I can't buy it. :(

Hmm. I'll see if I can save up $10 to get this, it looks fun.

I have enough money. :3
If someone starts a server we could all play and have fun and stuff. I hope the slime spawn rates were toned down from what I've seen in the vids.

*BUMPY ROAD*

Got this for my b-day, by the way.

It rocks.

I found a place called "The Corruption."

I broke a Shadow Orb down at the bottom of one of the chasms (stupid slime knocked me down), got a musket from it (now an arms dealer can move in!), and am now waiting for a meteor to fall from the sky. Then I can get it's meteorite for making a Phaseblade.

I agree. I finally got it and it's really awesome. There's so many different things to craft. :D

I know, love it. It's nice how this is similar to minecraft with the crafting, but completely different with the adventure aspect of it.

Hurry up Meteor! I want my Phaseblade!
It might be good to have an Obsidian Skull though...

~-<-~->-~

The description for "Rotten Chunk" is funny.

Rotten Shunk
Looks tasty!

I cracked up.

A meteorite has landed!

Finally PhaseBlade.

Y'know, I've played this quite a bit and fought The Eater of Worlds and The Eye of Kfulu (sp) and I have come to a conclusion.

DON'T COMPARE THIS TO MINECRAFT.

It's bad enough that the first 2 hours of it seem quite clone-y, but then people expect minecraft stuff and then blam the game for essentially it being unique. What's up with that? If you could treat it as its own game then it's pretty awesome.

Meteorite is harder to get than I thought.

It hurts on contact, and the whole time Meteor Heads are flying into you pushing you into it.

I need 20 Meteorite bars for my PhaseBlade, and they are six meteorite ores apiece. :?

Hmph. Also, the Eye og Cthuhlu ofr however you say it attacked me and I died. :P

You need to get an Obsidian Skull and put it in your accessories for lava/meteorite to not hurt. If you have a gold pickaxe or better you can juggle the meteor balls until they stop spawning.

I know. I dont have a Nightmare pickaxe for the obsidian, and I haven't even seen lava though. :P

I was able to mine the obsidian and meteorite with a gold pick. It's also a pain to get the water down to the lava.

Yeah...
I found a lot of lava though.

I have a lot of gems too.

This was in a different world, though.

In my other world, a goblin army is apperently attacking.
I haven't seen one goblin at all. :P
They're probably murdering the NPCs.

Hmm, never seen a goblin either.

Currently I have 12 hearts and 3 mana stars, meteorite armour and and a purple lightsaber. It's so much fun. :3

I have a blue lightsaber. Gold picks dont work on obsidian, I checked. You need a nightmare pickaxe. Now I need to defeat Eater of Worlds if I am to get shadow scales and demonite.

I fought the goblin army too. It was INSANE.

I came out rich though, and with three or four pairs of rocket boots. They killed all my NPCs, but then the NPCs came back. :)

I defeated Eye of Cthulhu or whatever, and a Dryad moved in, I bought purification powder, and went to The Corruption and broke two shadow orbs. (I broke three in that world total)

Eater of Worlds has awakened!

That battle was epic. I got my shadow scales, too. I have an obsidian skull now, yay.

I'm focusing on finding a hook, and skeletons aren't cooperating. :P

Then I must head to the underground jungle, which for me I believe is on the left of the map, and find the items needed for an Ivy Whip.

Currently I'm looking for Shadow Orbs, the underground jungle, and the 3 or so floating islands. I defeated the eater of worlds just a while ago. I'm working on trying to get dragonite (what's it called) armour. I have a chestplate already.

Demonite?

And shadow orbs are at the bottom of the Chasms in the Corruption.

Then there's only 2 shadow orbs in my whole world. I think they're just somewhere obscure down there.

Oh...well, they aren't always in a chasm. but I think they are only in the Corruption.

As for the Underground Jungle, locate your world's Dungeon entrance (which is on the surface towards the edges of the world), the Jungle is opposite to it. (e.g. My dungeon is on the right of the map, so my Underground Jungle is at the left of the map)

I made a large map so that's going to be some work. I do like how there's a chest at the bottom of the end of the world, got 5 dynamite from it. Hunting for shadow orbs again...

I found a Life Crystal once. :P
My map is Medium. Sometimes, I make new, smaller worlds for different purposes, and as items carry over, well, yeah. 8)

Also, Eater of Worlds is easy.

Making the summoner for him is easy too. I have three of them or something. The battle pays really well too, you can normally get a little more than 1 stack of Demonite and Shadow Scales. It also drops Shadow Armor. I made most of my armor, I took the Shadow Scalemail from it, and used the demonite and scales to make the rest, then I battled it again, on got more stuff, including a Shadow Helmet, which I sold. :D

Woah... floating islands are awesome.
The nighttime monsters spawn in day there, and you can find a chest in a GOLD CABIN with some really awesome stuff in there. I got a blue lightsaber from it, too. And the coolest thing is that they don't spawn until you decide to throw yourself off of the bridge in the sky, which you access from the huge purple tower thing.

Also, recently, I was playing on a server with some of my friends when Cat Expendable decided to break some shadow orbs without the others of us knowing. It was a big suprise and took us quite a bit to fend it off since, as you know, we didn't have much to fight back with. The only tip-off that one was coming was 2 seconds before it came: "A meteorite has landed!" We all thought "ohhhhhh noooo" and then there it was.

Was the bridge in the sky built by you? My dungeon doesn't have that, and I think they (the floating islands) are made when you make your World, so you were lucky to land on one....

Posted: Sun May 29, 2011 2:34 pm
by ~xpr'd~
No, there was an actual bridge in the sky. I do think that they spawn underneath you, since I had gone up in various places searching before, and only found it after falling on it.

What was the bridge made of? It sounds interesting.

Also, the Underworld is annoying.

I'm just mining my hellstone when , NO! FIRE IMPS AND BONE SERPENTS DISAGREE.

I'm not kidding, the amount of lava there is ridiculous!

The Helltone brick ruins are cool though, I'll see if I can get a pic.
