Keep a suction tube one tile inside the portal such that the tube's Z Adjust is really below the floor

The portal frame and midsection are purely visual. Below-ground SucTubes (as Blaze just mentioned,) make up the actual portal effect. SucTube straight pieces (and maybe corner ones) have sound effect options for Normal and Portal too.
Not really around much these years.
