I'm not even fast enough to get through the first pair of gates.

When both gates are open, don't be tempted to go through them immediatly, instead, wait for the green gate to close again, hold down the up key, and you will be able to get through.

The end was hard with me not seeing it because of the mothership rise but other than that it was easy and fun.
