Why not?

Okay. Right now I'm still working on a spike one.
I have hexed only one level, which is called "DARHEX2.LV6". The challenges of the hexing were trying to find out
where everything was, and staring at the numbers, trying to find the
right one, because it's hard to find numbers in that crowd.
Once I found where everything was, I become really exited about it. My favorite part was writing in the
spikes that were slower than normal ones.

That was an awesome spike rundown!
What about HEXED.LV6

I didn't understand HEX before I made the level that I posted above.
I'm now stuck with HEX because the RTW editor can't open it. I want to put a rainbow coin on a floor. How's that supposed to work?

Can someone help me? Notepad ++ makes no sense, and XVI32 won't work. I tried invisible conveyers, they just become normal floortiles.
Help plz!

You could try making a blank level filled with walls. Then open it in Notepad++.
In the screenshot below, I drew a red line to mark where the "c8 00" (wall) codes start. Each code is seperated.
If you want the code "04:02" (invisible UP conveyor), then place an 04 where the c8 is.
Then right after the 04, place in 02.

Ohhhh! Can someone try that one thats like
Possible Mutation: 38:08 ? allows entire floor to move?
Coooooooooooooooooooool

Didn't work. Just some blank walkable tile, but that's a cool mutation too

Thanks Darshan, but that's not what I mean. In Notepad++, all i see is a black box with NUL in it.

Oh thanks.
Can't try it now cos I'm on another computer which doesn't have Notepad++ nor RTW installed.
When I tried to open it yesterday all I saw is LOTS and LOTS of rounded rectangles with NULs on them, one rounded rectangle with SOH on it, "Stinky & Loof Level File" and a bunch of weird and unreadable nonsense.

You tried to open it in Notepad++ without turning on hex-editor mode?!

P.S. The 38:08 ended up in a MAV for me.

Don't laugh at me like that!
I have 3 folders of RTW, all folders have same versions. "Return To Wonderland" is the folder I use for regular things (e.g. making levels).
"Return To Wonderland 3.00" is what I thought that was v3.00 but was v3.01. "Return To Wonderland Ergh" is what I installed to try to fix the problem with the "unsmoothity" (i.e. the game didn't run smooth).
I want to hex edit a level in "Return To Wonderland Ergh". If I do something wrong, will I lose all three of them or only "Return To Wonderland Ergh"?

At the near top right of the screen, click the "H" button. It will turn on hex mode.
In the screenshot, click on the button enclosed in the orange circle.

Blast10! as you cannot hexedit two different levels at the same time, only the one in the "Ergh" folder may be lost.

I can't get Notepad++ to work still
There's no setting to turn it into Hexadecimal figures.
Man, that's annoying

Just use XVI32 or WinHex or whatever.

I tried, it turns invisible conveyers into walls.
EDIT: Not walls actually, floors!

For a while now, I have worked out how to put in objects. So ignore my questioning post, on "how to place in objects".

WOW! I just found the weirdest mutant EVER!
It's an instant death tile. Its code is a5:01.
It appears to be a hole in the floor but it can kill Stinky and sticks boulders to it. Well, here's the test level:
EDIT: Now I found Shadow Stinky warp gates! MS isn't telling us about SOMETHING!

Posted: Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:37 am
by Muzozavr
About shadow stinky warp gates and why MS didn't tell about it:
My theory is that they didn't even plan shadow stinker warp gates.
But when coding the game they just set a default warp gate to work with all enemies depending on some parameter.
That allows us to go beyond limits and get the shadow stinker warp gates.
By the way, John, you're really cool with hexing and discovered many things, but shadow stinker warp gates were discovered by Mark before you. See Amadeus level "The Marionettes".
