New Level: The end of time

The last 5 minutes of the universe - nothing is left, Stinky is alone with the elements: all he has is his brain, his patience, his faith and his guardian angel, and all he can do is pray.

Stinky is extraordinary, so he did not need any tools, but most people will need a pen and paper to solve this level (AMNON06).

Thanks to dlcs18 for his GIANT boulder model.

I started to play- started reading your signs... then quit the level and deleted it.

Interesting level and quite a challenge. I was unable to complete this with the models in place. I couldn't see a thing and I was going to dump the level, but I thought it would still be worth a go without the custom model. I was right, it was!

I have been told that this level is {too} difficult: it is a logical puzzle, inspired by the book "What is the name of this book?" by Raymond M Smullyan.

It seems I will need to post some hints, one a day, but first for convenience, here is what the oracles say:

Oracle A:
1. I was here first
2. My neighbour tells the truth
3. The one and only God is Olfo
4. When dancing to God, one moves 14 squares

Oracle B:
1. When reaching the place, start praying in 3 secs
2. Both my neighbours tell the truth
3. When dancing to Lord Tsynik, turn left 3 times
4. But when dancing to other gods, turn left twice

Oracle C:
1. After dancing 3 times, turn right
2. Never pray towards the rising sun
3. Both my neighbours are liers
4. A true dance has at least two equal steps

Oracle D:
1. At most one of my neighbours lies
2. After two steps of faithful dancing, turn left
3. Prayers to Oqokei start at the altar
4. When dancing to God, one moves 10 squares

Oracle E:
1. A prayer consists of 3 dances
2. Both my neighbours would agree who God is
3. Epegeu is a prophet
4. After dancing once, turn left

Oracle F:
1. God indicates when ready for your prayer
2. After the third step of dance, turn right
3. Tsynik is not a real God
4. Never turn your back when praying

Oracle G:
1. Meteors are just a physical phenomena
2. God hears your prayers wherever you start
3. At the end of prayers you reach the altar
4. Both my neighbours are liers

Oracle H:
1. After dancing twice, turn right
2. I never agree with my neighbours
3. The altar is locates 3E11N from a lier
4. The first step of a worthy dance is 3 squares

[Oracle I:
1. I am not a stinker
2. The third step of a worthy dance is the longest
3. I always agree with my neighbours
4. Work hard - nothing falls from heaven

[Oracle J:
1. Qookie is your angel
2. My neighbour is a stinker
3. A prophet is not a God
4. Second step: Tsynik-4,Olfo-3,Oqokei-2,Epegeu-6

The list of spoliers is itself a spolier:

  • 1. Which oracles tell the truth and which are liers
    2. Who is the true God
    3. Where to begin
    4. How to begin
    5. dancing part I: step-sizes
    6. dancing part II: step-directions
    7. Combining dances into a prayer
    8. General advice
Good luck, everybody!

Can you post a screenshot that shows the path you're suppost to take?
Thanks!

ILoveWonderland:

Yes, I will eventually post a screenshot, but not yet - it will spoil the challenge for all those who like solving logical puzzles. For now, I will post you a Private-Message with the path.

Today's hint: Which oracles tell the truth and which are liers

  • 1. J claims that his neighbour is a stinker, but his neighbour, I, claims that he is not - but he always agrees with his neighbours: so I is a lier!
    2. I lies that he is not a stinker, so J who claims that he is, is telling the truth!
    3. G claims that both his neighbours are liers: if this is true, then H is a lier and lying that he never agrees with his neighbours - but then he agrees with with G, so G is a lier!
    4. B claims that both his neighbours tell the truth, but one of them, C, claims that B is lying, therefore B is a lier!
    5. A claims that his neighbour B tells the truth, so he is also a lier!
    6. If C is telling the truth that both B and D are liers, then D is a lier, but then D lies when claiming that "at most one of my neighbours lies", so then both E and C are liers - but now we already have 6 liers (A,B,C,E,G,I), contrary to what Qookie told us that the oracles are evenly divided - so C is a lier!
    7. Now we already found the 5 liers: A,B,C,G,I so the rest must be telling the truth: D,E,F,H,J.

When I read your clues, went into the editor, and back to the game, I had some thoughts.

Are the giant boulders there to block off the level so that you have to read the signs?
Do you have to work out which person tells the truth and which person is a lier, and then do the dance steps that the truthful people say?

Mqdar:

Yes, this is exactly the point - it is a logical puzzle: if these giant boulders were not there, you could see what's behind the implementation and little fun would be left.

I did something similar in my second game, "The magical combination safe" ( http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=80896 ), but then I still did not know how to use models (and I still don't know how to make them), so I planted lots of big trees instead.

Today's hint: who is the real God?

  • 1. Lier A claims it is Olfo, so Olfo is not.
    2. E tells that Epegeu is a prophet and J explains that a prophet is not a God, so Epegeu is not.
    3. F tells us that Tsynik is not a real God.
    4. J tells us about the 4 potential gods: Tsynik (=Stinky), Olfo (=loof), Oqokei (Qookie) and Epegeu (Peegue). The real God than is Oqokei.

Today's hint: where to begin?

  • 1. D tells you that praying to Oqokei starts at the altar: we already established that Oqokei is the true God.
    2. H tells you that the altar is located 3E11N from a lier: going 11 squares north from oracles A-G will take you into (or across) the fire, and among H-I-J, only oracle-I is a lier. Going 3 squares east and 11 north from oracle-I (the figure, not the sign) brings you to the top-left corner of the bridged area.
    3. C lies that you must never pray towards the rising sun - start your prayer facing East!
    4. Lier B asks that once you get to the altar you must pray immediately (within 3 seconds): don't believe him!
    5. F tells you that God will indicate when ready to receive your prayer, so go to the altar and stay there until you receive a sign!
    6. G lies that meteors are just a physical phenomena: no - they are a sign from heaven!

Today's hint: step sizes

  • 1. Oracle D tells us that each dance consists of 10 squares.
    2. Oracle F tells us that there are at least 4 steps (turning right after the third).
    3. Oracle C lies that some steps of a dance are equal - therefore they must all be of different length. The only combination that adds up to 10 squeares is 4 steps of 1,2,3 and 4 squares.
    4. Oracle H tells us that the first step is 3 squares.
    5. Oracle J tells us that since we pray to Oqokei, the second step is 2 squares.
    6. Oracle I lies that the third step is the longest, therefore the longest step, of 4 squares, is the last.
    7. The step sizes are therefore: 3 squares, 2 squares, 1 square, 4 squares.

Today's hint: step directions

  • 1. Oracle F tells us never to turn back - this leaves only turning left or right after each step.
    2. Oracle D tells us to turn left after the second step (between the second and the third)
    3. Oracle F tells us to turn right after the third step (between the third and fourth steps). Note that earlier I had an error when copying the directions up here, saying "left" instead of "right", but in the level itself it says correctly "right".
    4. Oracle B lies that one must turn left twice (when praying to Gods other than Tsinyk, but we already know that the true God is Oqokei). Out of three turns, we already know that one is left and one is right: if the last turn out of 3 turns out to be left, then B would have told the truth - but he's a lier, so the remaining turn, which is the first, must be to the right.
    5. In conclusion, After the first step turn rIght, after the second step turn left and after the third step turn right.

Toon Dog,

This is a puzzle of logic - it exercises the gray cells of the brain: some people like it, some don't, so for those who don't or can't, tomorrow I will publish an image of the exact path that Stinky must travel, so what is left is pure Wonderland.

(meanwhile, as Bob Roest suggested, if you don't want to run through the logic drill, you can remove the model, see the inside mechanism and then again it is pure Wonderland)

Does that mean what you're suppost do after you do the prayer?

ILoveWonderland,

You are correct, this is about what to do if despite knowing the prayer you get stuck and feel that you cannot complete the level.

Today's hint: combining dances into a prayer

  • 1. Oracle E tells us that a prayer consists of 3 dances.
    2. Oracle E also tells that after dancing once we should turn left.
    3. Oracle H tells that after dancing twice we should turn right.
    4. Combining the 10-square dance 3 times produces the 30-square prayer below:

Today's hint:] general advice

  • Do not allow Orcale I is to discourage you saying "nothing falls from heaven" - he's a lier: Oqokei may test Her devotees' patience and faith, but never forsakes them - you WILL be able to complete your prayer, and once you complete it, your prayer will be answered in a mysterious way through your guardian angel.
The rest is smooth-ride, plain Wonderland stuff.
