May be easy for you two, but I found this quite a challenge.
Didn't know what was going on until I used the Alt-X zoom. Then I was able to make a start.
Took me a few more tries after that, and sometimes the generator didn't start because a helper met his doom the wrong way!

I'm stuck Muzzy! What hidden helper? I can do it all but I am always stuck with a barrel by the exit

Anyway time for unwhited spoilers.
The barrel blocks my exit!
Did you thought about actually pushing the spheres to the right? One barrel will take out the sphere, and the second barrel generator will stop the first one.
There is another little surprise, but I afraid that I could miss the question again, and so I write it here:
One exit doesn't work, and the other is locked!
Right near the unworking exit, there's a coin hidden in a false wall.
Collecting it will unlock the other exit and a funny sign at it.

I have been pushing the sphere's right all along! Is there some sort of knack to the barrel gen smashing the sphere - because it doesn't work for me! 
I assume that I leave the coins around the other gen?

Yes, that's what screws you up.
Get the coins around the gen before starting it.

Thanks Muzzo - but it still doesn't work for me! As soon as I push the bottom barrel into the water - there is a crash sound from the gen but nothing comes out from either gen
Think I might be doing something else wrong?

Get ALL the coins around the gen -- then it should work.
