Strange Chomper Attraction

Hi all,
I was playing my old levels (inluding most of the Classic ones) and I found something very interesting:
In the
CLASSIC RTW Edition: If you start a level just with Stinky and have yellow chompers in that level, they won't chase you. They stand still in the same place.
However, in the
DELUXE RTW Edition: if you start a level Just with Stinky and use the same yellow chompers, they will follow you. Now that's a big difference. The problem is that it's making some of my Classic Levels UNPLAYABLE in the Deluxe Version, because some chompers are supposed to stay in the same place, not to attack us...
I wonder if this happens because in the Deluxe Edition we have 2 new characters

Actually, if I recall correctly, in old RTW if you use yellow chompers in a level without Loof to start off with, they will try to chase the position corresponding to where Loof was the last time you played a level with Loof since starting up the game. If you haven't yet played a Loof level since starting up the game, I think it'll take Loof's position to be upper-left corner of the level or something like it. At least that's how it behaves in my copy of the old RTW. It's true though that they won't chase Stinky even if he's right next to one of the yellow chompers.
So in general in a Stinky-only level, the player can actually control to some degree where the yellow chompers will be heading by first playing a custom level with Loof, move Loof to the desire board position you want the yellow chompers to be heading towards, then switch to playing the Stinky-only level.
Not surprisingly, this behavior changed with the new RTWD, probably for the same reason that "invisible Stinky" no longer works either.

Actually, I thought that the both sets of chompers chased who ever started the level. I seem to recall levels where there are both red and yellow beasties, and they both came after Stinky, or Loof, who ever was the sole character.
If you started a level with both, then the chompers were "color-cordinated" to chase their targets, until one of the targets left the board, then it was a free-for-all.
I never really paid alot of attention to them, other than to run as fast as I could

I unloaded the Classic RTW when I uploaded DRTW, so I can't even go back to check.

You were probably playing with DRTW then, and not the old RTW. Remember that in the old RTW you always have to have Stinky, you cannot have solo Loof.
Alternatively, it could very well be that it looks like the yellow chompers were chasing Stinky, but in actuality they were simply heading to where Loof was the last time you played a level with Loof, and it so hapens that this makes the yellow chompers look like they are chasing Stinky.

Could be LNS, but I do remember playing a level nearer the end where both Loof and Stinky were present, but in opposite locations on the level. When Stinky went through the exit, both yellow and red chompers went after Loof, in fact, the chompers had to change directions to do it.
I may very well have been on DRTW where I saw that occurance, but I honestly can't recall even how long ago it was that I saw it, or what level.
I think there are still players out there who have the original RTW, I wonder if any of them have seen this happen?

Oh yes, that is the expected behavior. But what Kaboom was talking about however, is something else: situations where you have a level that
starts with
no Loof but
with yellow chompers.
The expected thing that should happen is same as above: the yellow chomopers should chase Stinky. And in DRTW you indeed get the expected behavior.
But in the old RTW, what actually happens in that
particular situation I just described (but
not the more common case of starting with both Stinky & Loof and then later Loof exits, as you've described) , is that the yellow chompers don't chase Stinky, but rather chases a "phantom Loof" corresponding to where Loof was the last time you played a level with Loof in it.

So what Kaboom was talking about is a setup that most people's levels don't use, but apparently some of Kaboom's levels use. And he was saying that the change (I'd call it bug fix) in DRTW is making those levels of his become unplayable. What I was saying is that perhaps he shouldn't have relied on that oddball setup in the first place, as the exact behavior of the yellow chompers in old RTW can be manipulated by the player (intentionally or accidentally) to a small degree.
