What's the flip glitch?

I've heard of it and how useful it is but idk what it is and how to do it. Can somebody plz tell me? Thx.
If you place an object, then flip the level, you can place a second object on top of the first one without deleting it. Of course, you still need to flip the level again so it's oriented properly, but it's pretty useful.
