Midnight EST? Is that Eastern Seaboard Time? What time is that in GMT?
If EST is the same time as New York, then it's GMT minus 6 hours. Is that right?

Popo, I'm on EST (Eastern Standard Time) in Florida. Our time is -5 hours from GMT. Hope this helps!

Central Standard is -6.

As I post this it is 12:54 in the afternoon.
Oh my.....you are opening the doors to alot of different entries aren't you? Just a bit more than a month to carve my monument to Stinky and the gang out of granite!!!
Hope to see lots of entries.

Yes, -6. But I obviously hope it doesn't come down to "last second" submission!

Feel free to submit as early as you wish.

Absolutely - I already know that there is great creativity in this community, and this is an opportunity to really show it off. (and yes, a level is also considered art - so you can also submit a level).
Hope everyone has lots of fun with this - I look forward to see how it develops.

I would like to ask one thing Patrick.
How do you judge a level against say, a poem or a picture?
Will all of the creations be put into categories?
Yes, I know that was two questions but I'm an old hand!
I thoroughly enjoyed the first contest, hoped this one would be the same format.
It will be very interesting to hear other views.

It'll really depend on what kind of submissions there are. Since there's a lot of prizes it is certainly possible to group submissions into category, but given the "openess" of the competition I did not put such categories in place at the start.
Yes, judging will be hard - but judging even 14 levels back in February was hard!!!

Lots of people will have very subjective opinions - and this is why the general popularity (by voting) is the main yardstick. MS has the final say - but that's just to ensure that there is a way out in case something unusual or unforseen happens .

Wow, you're certainly not doing anything by halves in this comp...
The mind boggles at all the different things we'll be seeing. A good idea to open it up to all non registered folk as well. Might be a good way to encourage more to come on board. And maybe see some of the old hands back.
And I'm greatful for the extended deadline as well... just when I was looking forward to catching up on some sleep!

So have you had enough time to think about what you're doing yet???
I've got plans for a BIG level (think AdvL2

but not as complex) - something I'd already started & not part of my Adventure Land series. Lots of custom graphics/models which I've started already including a Mysterious Note, a Noodle Shop & a Big Secret... with special guest appearances including Old Bear among others...
What's everyone else considering?

If memory serves me right, last competition was anonymous - so you probably shouldn't be telling???

Posted: Thu Dec 02, 2004 2:10 am
by Midnight Synergy
This one isn't - unless people want to specifically remain anonymous. Not that everybody didn't know anyway which level Robbie's was. It was hard to miss!!!)
Another question I was asked: can entries be posted early. Yes - again, this is different than before, you can post an entry, or part thereof, or any discussion, or anything else. But you don't have to - if you just send the finished creation to me it'll be posted after the deadline.

Well, I'm making a Christmas Calendar in 24 parts (of course). A new level will be uploaded in the Classic Forum each day from Dec 1st to Dec 24th.
Merry Xmas

and enjoy

Even though MS has the final say, I'm sure they will take people's views/ votes into consideration when judging.
Keeping this in mind, wouldn't it be better to keep the entries anonymous?
Let's face it, folk may vote more for the person than the entry!
Just my opinion, love to hear what others think about it.

While it's an official comp with prizes etc, I'm sure a lot of us will be in it just for the fun - that's my line anyway... besides being an excuse to actually get a level out
While you have a point Maureen I'm sure MS is smart enough to know if people are talking up a bomb of an entry (relatively speaking) based on any particular person or hype & will rather judge according to merit.
All that besides I have no problem with remaining anonymous... dang! already blown the cover...

tsk, tsk, I guess witches have a more cynical view of the world eh?
(But seriously, it's a valid point to consider.)

Unless everyone does somethig totally out of character, people will guess who sumbmitted things. For instance, if there's a level with a completely new model in it, it can only be one of a handful of people who have made it. So I am going to try and do something I've not done before and that has the markings of someone else. Sneaky, huh?

littlejg (with a little help from nana) painted pumpkins of several Wonderland charactors for Halloween, I will see if any of the photos turned out well enough to post. I was shocked (

) that most people thought they were "Smilely Face" guys......but we set them straight on who they were!

Just to tease: Two (excellent) early bird submissions so far!
(one from outside the community)
Someone asked me their if kids can participate. Absolutely - see littlejg's pumpkin idea. Depending on how many kids submissions we get, we'll take age into account. And we'll assume people won't fib about their age. Well, they might say that they're still 29. But not six.

As Linky said: It's all about the fun.

How are the entries going Pat?
Should have mine in in the next couple of days...

Been slow so far... that translates into either (a) good chances to win

or (b) more activity closer to the deadline.
Posted: Wed Dec 29, 2004 9:30 am
by Robbie
... hopefully
(b) more activity closer to the deadline with reasons for not getting it in sooner being
(c) just a little to much Christmas cheer

(if you're seeing double may be you're still under its influence) or (d) there weren't enough power points at the holiday unit for both the hairdryer & my computer...
Anyway, I'm in!

Maybe Pat an extension of time till the 15th???
You didn't mention how long discussions would be lasting but if it meant that more entries could be completed and entered I'd be happy to see that... if only for Pauline's sake

after all she's been busy with the last comp and well... she can't use taking down Crissy decorations as an excuse... I'd better stop there before I do her chances a dash.

You're only saying that cos you know I'll thrash you in the comp.
Oooh... that sounds like a challenge if ever I heard one! Nothing like a bit of friendly competition huh
Hope you get it in. You know it just wouldn't be the same

.
As for getting longer... being GMT+10 here in eastern Australia, the deadline hits here first (unless there are Wonderlanders in neighbouring New Zealand or the islands). Anyway, I got my entry in at the end of December sometime. Being here on my own (my girls were still down in Sydney) I had lots of time over Christmas to get it done.
5am on Tuesday morning??? Better get the coffee & chocolate biscuits ready

<--- this might be what you'll be looking like at the end of it

Well, if anyone has something they're planning to send in but needs an extra day or two, just e-mail me. I'll wait for Popo's entry for sure, just let me know if I should expect any others.

I have now emailed you Patrick. Something bad happened this morning, and I lost all my textures. Had to redo it all.
