I just saw jdl's post in Spongebob Squarepants Krabby Quest Game Topic.

I found that if I open res files with different programs will reveal some secrets...

For Spongebob Squarepants Krabby Quest Game res files disoveries, see http://pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23342

For RTWP see:

Do you mean models, MWM??

And kidkid: Oh yes we can!! :D

But we have to replace the ordinary texture :cry:

(N.b: this is for Platinum elements only... you cannot retexture a coily for example) :cry:

You can copy your res files, then replace the new file!
SIMPLE! :)

In res2.dat, there are multiple images and sound files (along with other files as well). In other res.dat files, if they only contain 1 item in them (such as an image) then yes, you can replace it without causing any problems as shown above. However almost all the model textures are in res2.dat and we can't pack edited files back. We must find a program that can let us do this. We're already able to access most of these files using Dragon Unpacker.

Found some sounds within the res files

31 - Stinky tramp 1
32 - Stinky tramp 2
33 - Stinky tramp 3
34 - Stinky tramp 4
35 - Loof tramp 1
36 - Loof tramp 2
37 - Loof tramp 3
38 - Loof tramp 4
39 - Qookie tramp 1
40 - Qookie tramp 2
41 - Qookie tramp 3
42 - Qookie tramp 4
43 - Peegue tramp 1
44 - Peegue tramp 2
45 - Peegue tramp 3
46 - Peegue tramp 4
47 - Boing
48 - Sticky cube stick
49 - Warp gate spawn
50 - Transporter

I opened Res1 with Notepad and I see names of all kinds of texture, sound, and level files. It's must be some kind of archive. I need some kind of program that can read files like this that is NOT WinRAR, it won't work.

I guess 'Stinky tramp' is the noise he plays when he jumps on a trampoline. :lol:
Stinky: WEEEEEE!!!!!

trampoline sound 1 and 2 are common sounds from bouncing on a trampoline. 3 sounds when bouncing on a tramp several times and 4 sounds when bouncing on a tramp many times.

Fascinating topic on res files.

Using the free program Dragon Unpacker...

http://www.elberethzone.net/dup-news.html { web site of D.U. }

I was able to unpack as well as find lots of info on certain res files.

--------------------------------------
Let's start with Res2.Dat

According to D.U., there were 487 files embedded within Res2.dat of following types:
.JPG .BMP .669 .WAV

In the data that follows,
the first number is the offset into the res2.dat file, and the second number is the actual size of the media file.
With this information it is now very easy to replace those media
files with your own choice music, or pix.

// List of entries follows:
// Directory|Filename|Offset|Size|Description

res2_dat-0000000001.jpg|0 |2178 |File .JPG
res2_dat-0000000002.jpg|2178 |3348 |File .JPG
res2_dat-0000000003.jpg|5526 |3796 |File .JPG
res2_dat-0000000004.jpg|9322 |3576 |File .JPG
....
// Total=0 bytes / 487 files

Those are too many files to type here, so I attached the offset list
here in a TXT file for anyone that wants it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The .669 files are an unusual mod music format.
I already tested the ones in res2.dat and they don't play; they are empty. :shock:
For some reason the designer decided to place empty .669 files in it.

But, in case you'd like to hear some real .669 mod music,
I found a website that offers free mods: [TEXTFILES.COM]

Free .669 mod samples:
Download 81 mod music files [type 669].zip on Uploadingit

Free MTM mod samples:
Download MTM Mod Files.zip on Uploadingit

the actual mod website = http://artscene.textfiles.com/music/mods/
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is my older topic on MOD Archive:
http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic ... hlight=res

Here is rekcer's old topic on "custom music res files" :
http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic ... hlight=res

Here is Amnon's Gate & Button Color Topic: [res files]
http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic ... hlight=res
Here is a reprint of some data:
res2.dat is exceptional in that it contains a lot of media;
it contains 116 JPGs, 97 BMPs, 93 WAVs

The following RTW files contain 1 BMP within:
{ res9, res12, res13, res15, res16, res17, res18, res19, res20,
res21, res22, res26, res51, res52, res53, res60, res61, res62,
res63, res64, res65, res66, res67, res68, Wonderland.exe }

The following RTW files contain 1 JPG within:
{ res14, res23, res24, res27, res28, res29, res30, res54,
res55, res56, res57, res58, res59 }

The following RTW files contain 1 WAV within:
{ ldr1.dat, ldr3.dat, res31, res32, res33, res34, res35, res36,
res37, res38, res39, res40, res41, res42, res43, res44, res45, res46,
res47, res48, res49, res50 }

Is there any way we can mod the files and repack to see our own textures in-game besides the custom levels and Platinum media?

res file program?

Excellent question.

I'm sure it can be done with Blitz3D.

Well, there would be a few things to consider, such as are those media offsets absolute or can they be relative.
Will the RTW game adapt to changing sizes of media in the res2.dat strip
or does it demand that the offsets remain as shown by Dragon Unpacker?

Take for example that the first JPG is 2178 bytes in size; If we replace it
with another JPG that is slightly larger at 3000 bytes, then that means
that all of the media that follows will also be shifted to higher offsets as well.

In the case that the offsets are absolute (and must not be changed),
then we'd have to take strict measures to guarantee that JPG1 gets replaced by another JPG of identical size.
Or, it can be replaced with a JPG of slightly smaller size, and add byte padding.

There is also the possibility that there is some mysterious data in the
res2.dat file that Dragon Unpacker shall never detect, so we'll have to
preserve those bytes as well since they may be vital for the RTW game.

It would be fun to change some of the game font files, and either replace
them with other fonts or replace them with intricate graphics.
Therefore you'd be spelling out 'art' instead of letters. ;)

Another thing to ponder is whether to do a rush job on such a project,
or to finesse it with user-friendly menus, etc.
