The Wonderland Board

I seem to be truly stuck. I've rescued all the Wizards except Guggenheimer who is supposed to be on Barren.

Someone in the Academy Library gave me a circular symbol to use, which matches the ones on the floor in my first picture, but I can't use it there.

Went on and found 3 scritters which I thought perhaps I had to herd through to sit on those 3 spots, but they won't go from one area to another, they just cross the red arrow.

What are those scritters for, and how can I get through the gates?

There's a place that's inacessible from within Barren. You have to backtrack to the first room of Star's End, there's an extra path. The sign should say "Barren (Dark Side)"

So take it to the darkness and find its matching face, will you?
