WA Editor v3.00 Pre-Release Notes

Hello everyone,

with the release of the new WA Editor, you'll notice a few changes around the forum. Specifically, a new category has been created for v3.00, with the old editor forum renamed as "Legacy Version".

Since many things have changed since the release of the old editor (including many custom hacks by the community), I've decided to keep the posts separate in order to not confuse discussion between old and new.

Some threads (e.g. some custom content) of course apply to both versions, and we'll figure out if/how to merge these at a later point.

For now, PLEASE DON'T SPAM THIS NEW SECTION with posts of "ohmygod!" or "when is it coming out?". Let me slowly set things up first. Might take a few more days. ;)

ohmygod! when is it coming out?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I refreshed the page and at first I was wondering why all the posts were suddenly gone from the WA editor forum section... until I realized that now there's more than one. It seems like the release is getting closer!

Awesome, but I have one concern. The whole "legacy version" naming is kind of confusing. Maybe they could be named things like "WA Editor Discussion", etc. and "POTZ Editor Discussion" etc.?

I've already been planning some puzzles in my head, so it'll be good to finally get to play them! :D

Agreed. Deleting things like feature suggestions and especially custom levels doesn't sound like a good idea. But fortunately, with the whole "legacy version" naming, I don't think it'll happen.

Awesome to hear it's coming out soon!

By the way, in your "Customization" guide, you didn't mention where we would store our custom textures for existing models.

And one last little thing: is it going to be impossible to program our custom models to work as existing in-game objects? For example, in the original WA editor, we found a way to make bouncing chompers that acted like spikeyballs.

You'll still be able to hack wops as before, but that won't be a built in feature.

Well, it never WAS a built in feature, anyway....

I understand that custom textures for existing objects go in UserData/Custom/Objecttextures and custom models go in UserData/Custom/Models, however where do the textures for the custom models go..? I assume it's with the .3ds file in /Models/.

Also in the customization pdf for #3, 2nd paragraph:
To use custom icons in the editor, select them in the Object selection screen[...]

I assume the WAE3 Fair-use statement does not disallow you from showing non-forum friends the WA3E on your computer or moving adventures from one of your computers to another?

Correct.

It seems that if you try to open a level in the editor that has a custom texture, and the texture texture isn't found in the \leveltextures\ directory, it says it couldn't find the texture and closes the editor instead of doing the "REVERTING" thing like it did before. :?

Reposting this here instead because I don't think the other thread was the appropriate place to put it.
