Dumb Ways to Die, Wonderland Edition

About an year and a half ago, I posted a topic on Dumb Ways to Die, a counter-intuitive train safety video that went viral back in late 2012/early 2013 for its catchiness and other things. I considered making a Wonderland version, but I wasn't experienced enough with the editor's complex NPC animation system yet, and I gave up after two failed attempts.

But, with the PoTZE's slightly better NPC processing system, more elements, my renewed vigour, and the idea from a school friend who I will leave nameless, I've made one now. The music track (my singing is a bit over the top, sorry about that,) is uploaded on MediaFire because I couldn't compact it down to <800 KBs.

The converter I used, for anyone else's benefit, credit to Johann Burkard

The original music track

The current music track

And backing track music, original video is by the Australian singer Tangerine Kitty and Metro.

Notes:

-Yes, I didn't contact any mods about appropriateness. The mods are all busy with exams right now. Besides, this parody is completely gore-free, so I don't foresee problems here.

-The animation and my singing are far from perfect, but spare me some kindness for the work I put in. This took a week for the editor part alone! :o

-And the whole adventure is pure cutscene. Thanks to CMD 51, you can't move. At all.

And be safe around magic! :stinkywink:

First download! This is...interesting. And creative.

I didn't download this for two reasons.

1. I am awful when it comes to downloading anything that isn't the level itself, and
2. I only kill stinkers when I'm trying to reach a further goal - not just to kill them.

I cringe every time I hear the RTW "AAHAAAAAAAA" or the WA "WAAAAAAAAH!"; especially the sooner.

I had to turn the stinkers into thwarts via CMD 4 to make the level MAV-free. (Stinkers and thwarts do not like each other's animations.) Thus there are no such sounds, only the POW sounds made when a non-animated NPC is killed.

LittleZBot: Thanks

Wow. That was impressive.

First of all, INCREDIBLE MECHANISMS. Each death was well-executed and nicely designed. The song itself had funny lyrics, too. You came up with loads of hugely imaginative Wonderland-esque deaths. :D

One hint: did you think of rising everything in each WLV upwards by a few blocks? You could've hidden the player character under the floor, so there wouldn't have been random walls in the middle of each scene.

That would have been too hard to manage. The immense number of CMDs here (which aren't Z-adjustable) would make that very hard to work with. I'm not so bothered by random walls. My only problem with this work (besides my notorious singing) is that stinkers becoming thwarts can't move, and face away from the player. :x

But honestly, I think I still did this pretty fast, given all the complications. Thanks for your comments, guys.

When I heard the first 20 seconds of the song I loved it! The adventure was even more nicer!
The lyrics were funny and very good, but what made me like it more is the adventure itself, that most have been a lot of work!
That's very creative and nice! I like it! :D

I should be able to record this for you.

It's up.
I think you maybe could've put a bit more enthusiasm into the singing, to be honest, but nonetheless good work on this!

Well, I couldn't sing too loudly because I live in a condo, and the neighbors would've been upset if they heard me singing like that. I already bother them enough playing my instrument. :P

As for the bad quality, I couldn't fix the quality too much, my sound recorder isn't very good. My singing wasn't as bad when I first sung it. :|

About two weeks, although part of that was coming up with good lyrics and another part was practicing them and trying to find a better recorder. (No such luck.)

Could you please write the lyrics? I'm not a native English speaker and I'm having a hard time understanding what you're singing...

Check the lyric archive at the top. I also updated it now for spelling mistakes.

DP I had a brainwave. By increasing the music's pitch by 20%, I got rid of most of the problems in the original. Edited first post to re-upload new version. If you don't like it, just swap the other one to 1021 and it to 1022. :)

It now sounds truly stinkerish.

Still funny, but, strangely, the music is now slightly off from the adventure. :?

Funny, that doesn't happen for me. Is it off the whole way through?

In my opinion I really enjoyed this! Very interesting concept!

My only complaint was that you need to enunciate more in the music.

Unless it's just me that is :P

Sort of. It's barely noticeable at first, but gets progessively worse, to the point where a way to die is sung before you ever enter the room it takes place in. It's almost like he slightly changed the speed, not the pitch. The old song works perfectly, though.

That never happens to me. What happens is that the wlv is slightly ahead from the fourth chorus onwards until the last chorus, so the music is behind by a second in the fifth verse. But that's in both versions, and it has to do with the stinker/thwart MAV thing and reducing lag in the last chorus. But the music being ahead and only in the high pitch - I don't know what's up with that. Sorry. :(

That's just fine. After all, I still have the original music.

Is anyone else having this problem? I checked the files again and they're definitely in sync. (Hearing both pitches at once on Audacity sounds psychedelic BTW. :P )

BTW as an Easter Egg, you can use your spy-eye to view the controls for this cutscene.

So I had the time to watch this on Youtube.
Great work! The lyrics were original and funny, and I admire the sheer effort you put into this. :)

Posters :!:

Not archived because the archive somehow became bigger than the three combined. :?

I'm also putting this extra post out to hear if anyone would like an actual level with puzzles based off this. (Similar to how the original has a game.)

You know, up until tonight, I had never heard a stinker sing.

Coincidentally, I had not known as to how to use the thing which gave me the music until tonight, either.

Well, I decided to record a bunch of your new stuff,
and I just couldn't accept doing that without
making my own video of this adventure!
(with the stinkerized version of course)

To this day I still find this one of the most epic
creations in Wonderland. It even adds an element of
happiness and safety that I get when I'm in Wondertown
in the official series, yet it's still absolutely ridiculous.

And... still not sure how you found the time to get
the timing perfect. .-.

Anyhow, thank you again for the adventure! :D
