I just wondered if you could add a comment to your levels when uploading. The level of difficulty, easy, medium, hard etc.
It was just an idea I got when replying to a question from GraphicsKat.
Would anyone object to this?
I know some of you say a level is easy and others may not find it so.
We soon get used to a persons style and what they believe to be easy.
For example: If Malc says his level is easy, I take it with a pinch of salt.
I think he just likes to tease us.
It will be interesting to read your comments.

How about posting a pic of the level? That way each user will take his own conclusions about the difficulty.

I think that's a very good idea. However, do you know how many times I've thought a level I made was easy - and then everyone else found it hard??? Too many to count. I've discovered it's usually hard for me to judge whether my level is easy or hard, simply because I know how to do it!! Then again, Malc KNOWS his levels are hard! When he thinks one of his is easy, to me that means it is one I can do, but it will probably take me a thousand tries!!

Again, another reason to include a screen when uploading a level. That way a player will judge by himself if the level is easy or not AND have a look and see if it is a level of his taste.

I don't think including a screen shot would do any good. Some times the simplest looking levels are shockingly difficult. And it would take up alot of Patricks bandwidth.

I'm with Majic1 here ... all levels are mega-easy to whoever made then (cos they hid all the coins and laid all the traps!)
I don't mind sticking a comment on - someone will soon tell me my definition of easy/hard is exagerated or optimistic i guess.
Whilst I'm on .. how DO you post screen shots? - I've seen it a lot but haven't a clue how
Thanks Kazza

You can post screens witouth spending the forum's bandwidth,
simply upload them in here -
www.imageshack.us (this offers free unlimited images hosting) and use the
However it requires some extra work...

Agree in concept with jg on this one. Screen shots can be deceiving, and
one area may be completely different from another area on the same level.
A comment on difficulty when we post a level is appropriate though, and
actually some of us already employ this method. If others choose to
correct us in our estimates as we progress, then sobeit. No harm done.

I think Patrick said something about screenshots before.
I did make the point about how people can view there own levels as 'easy'. As stated, we soon get to know the authors work.
It was just an idea, maybe it's best forgotten.

Kazza, to post a screen you press F8 during your play. A screen was taken and saved in your RTW directory with the name "screenshot1.bmp". Open it with some image editing program, like microsoft paint and click
file>>save as >image format: JPEG format.
That way the image size is much smaller.
Then you just upload the image like if it was a level.

You can also save it as - gif jpg png tga tif - just make sure it's under 800kb. The smaller the better.

I have no problems with assigning a difficulty to my levels (well besides the fact it's very difficult to assign difficulties to your own levels

), but I don't think the screenshot idea is a good one for all the reasons stated by others. So I won't be doing that.
