Error Message - HELP!

Anyone else experience a Memory Access Violation  when trying to load their own custom level?

I created a level, but when I went to test it, I got an error message.

I have run my WinDoctor, and it corrected problems, but I still get an error message when I try and select the Custom Level. The Standard Level is fine.

:? :x

Most of us get that error from time to time, we do not know for sure what it is for, but I suspect it is too much 3d data on the custom level for the graphics card/program engine to handle.

Memory access violation

It drives me crazy. I can't play most levels at home because of the "Memory access violation". I design levels and can't play them until I get to work.
I have my idjit level done- in my head- and it kills me that I can't play it. Just the very beginning few tiles and objects, pretty wierd combos I might add, causes the dreaded "violation". I just had no trouble with jg's idjit example, and was also able to edit it. No problem. Maldelsol, BIGZIPZ, eeyore, majic1, and the like I can only play at work. It drives me crazy
What can I do?
I am an idjit er, uhh, idiot when it comes to computers.

oh no

Oh No....the dreaded Memory Access Violation!!!

If you are running Windows XP:

Click on Return to Wonderland, click on properties, click on find target.
Open custom levels folder and delete what ever level you downloaded.
Try to download it again. Make sure to goes to custom levels folder.

Hope this helps. It has happens to some of us, too.

Good Luck. And welcome to Wonderland.

Well, it's nice to know that I didn't screw up something vital in the program, not that it would be the first time I've done something like that.

So, other than deleting a lot of stuff off my computer, I guess there isn't anything I can do? I had such a good level that looked like Nova Scotia (for the latest level request by ol'gramma), but, now I guess I won't even know if it works!?!

I wonder if I delete some of the custom levels that I downloaded earlier would help? I can always reload them, right?

total amount of levels u have is irrelevant, as only one is read at a time during gameplay. upload the file in this post and I will take a look at it.

I guess you could e-mail it to somebody with RTW and see if it works on their computer. Not me, as I am having the same problem
You wouldn't be able to edit it, but at least you'd get an idea if it is a working level or not. :?

edit- BIGZIPZ has a better idea, mine is more secretive

memory access violation

I have found that when I have been working, revising, adding, changing, saving, etc, a level....

That it helps to go back and close all the little editor tabs in the taskbar before trying to play the final version I come up with.

I am not really all that computer literate either, but I have found that you have to clean out your temp. files quite often when working on a level.

If you are running WindowsXP:

Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options>
Under Temporary Internet Files check the box to delete all off line content, and then click Delete Files.

That usually stops the sometimes jerky look that some "busy" levels have.

I haven't gotten the Memory Access Violation now for quite some time :D

Hope this helps.

jg

ps: sometimes the level can be just "Too Busy" try removing a few things in the level.

Wow. I run an AthlonXP1500. 1.33 GHz. 256mb RAM.
And only 40GB of memory. I have lots of the other stuff on board what with digital photos, etc. So I try to keep what space I do have clean.

You see why I want a new computer???

Thanks for the replies! I really am glad I'm not the only one who has problems.

janetgalle - I will try your suggestion, first

BIGZIPS - I'll try janetgalle's first, then if I still have problems, will upload then.

But, it's getting late (11 p.m. local time), and I must say goodnight to all my new friends in Wonderland. Unfortunately 6:30 a.m. comes much quicker in the real world than in Wonderland.

Happy rainbow dreams every one, and don't let the z-bots bite! :D

I tried as janetgalle suggested, and even deleted a few files, etc. that we don't use and are just taking up memory. I still get the error message, and it's closing the game down too.

So, Bigzipz, I'll upload as you suggested, (unless I screw that up  ) and maybe someone can see if it works on their system.

BTW - it is a work in progress, and judging from the other custom levels I've downloaded, I'd say it's no where near as professional as the ones you talented people have suggested.

Hey i tried loading in and I got a crash too, I loaded in editor and i see the problem, the game will only keep track of 100 of each type of item, try deleting some things, for example the bottom left is packed of nasties, too many items on the level than the game can handle!

That's what I was thinking too. Next question - How do I delete the baddies? When I try and delete something, I end up with like a tree & a coin on an empty space. They don't seem to want to go away. :?

Oh, and the baddies represent those horrific mosquitos and blackflies we have to deal with every spring & summer. I guess since there is such controversy regarding overfishing, I can loose some of the fishes. That might help.

Click on the little black space in the upper left hand corner on the object area- just to the left of the Stinky icon. Then place your mouse/pointer thingy on top of the offending object, click, and it will disappear. :D

I should have known it was something as simple as that...

Okay, I did what you told me to do, and eliminated a lot of baddies, but now I get the message when I try and save the changes! :x

Where have we heard that before?

Jersey, you are just beginning to find out how dumb you can get.

This game has a way of reducing one's Intelligence Quotient and increasing one's Idjit Quotient.

You are not alone. We are here for you.

Humph!

Thanks DG

Still doesn't solve the problem of saving my changes...Anyone else have an idea - Other than agreeing with me that I'm even dumber than a KaBoom! ? :P

Sorry that nothing seems to be helping. The final thing would be to completely remove RTW and do a fresh install. Be sure to save your installation file. I had to do that once....

We don't want you to get so frustrated that you (gasp) leave Wonderland.

I have been working on my North Dakota level, must have been way too big, because I got the memory access violation also. I had to remove quite a few things, but North Dakota is pretty empty any way :!:

Good Luck.
