First Impressions - Platinum

A thread for discussion of first your very impressions of Platinum. What new element made the best first impression, made you go "Yeay!", "Ooooh", "Tee-hee", or "Wooohooo"? On the other hand, what made you go "meh" at first sight?

I see some folks are jumping right into levelmaking experiments! ;) Just to point out that some people might prefer to start with the 20-level mini adventure (look in CustomLevels/Platinum Set) first to get a feel for what things can do. Either way, I wish you lots of fun with the new toys!

Oh, and just to point out that explanations of the various things and what they do can be found in the newsletter http://www.midnightsynergy.com/newsletter , the updated editor help pages on our website http://www.midnightsynergy.com/returntowonderland , and, again, by playing the included level set.

Cheers!

At this point, I don't know which I like best. However, I can tell you that I do NOT like the 3-D perspective. To all of you creators out there. I will not play any level using that feature! Thanks anyway!

I competely agree with Gary on this one.

3D is a loser for me. Toggle would be good.

Sorry, Patrick.

A difficult choice from a box of delicious chocolates!

I voted for the ghost characters - that's a totally new slant on gaming for me. I've seen trampolines and transporters used in other games, but I really welcome them here.

The one thing I really can't stomach is the 3D view - it makes me feel quite sick.

Total synchonicity has happened here. The really weird thing for me is that in my Coin Quest series, I've reached the point where the Elf Queen (LOTR Galadriel) gives gifts to the Fellowship. I was really wondering how to handle this one, when the Platinum Edition gives a whole box of gifts that they can really use, and I've had to select just 4 of them!

Thank you Patrick - this is the best Christmas present of all for me!

My favourite has got to be the trampolines, I just can't stop using them. I love it when Loof says 'That's too high'. Coming a close second it's sticky cubes, but only because of the farty noise they make when they stick together.

Two things I don't like are those fiery shadow stinkers that shoot you, and those warp gates. I have enough trouble getting rid of nasties in the first place without having another lot appear from nowhere.

I did the first maze entirely in 3D without getting sick, but I have to admit to having a look at it in Alt-X first to see where things were. I chickened out of the other 3D one when a kaboom came looming towards me.

Well....since the pushable cannons were my idea  (of course I don't know if anyone else had it too  :D ) I had to vote for that. The trampolines came very close though

My favorite is the custom background and texture because I knew some of the makers would have a heyday with it and visual plays a strong part in my enjoyment of games. Thanks Shorty!

Next favorite is the conveyor and all of the rest are enjoyable depending on the layout.

Thanks for the new edition. I'm already amazed at how many levels have been created and here's a reason to expect many more. This game has to be the best buy I've ever made in a game for long term playability.

I've noticed in my many looks for games that Wonderland and Secret Worlds are listed with many different vendors. RTW or RTWD I've never seen. Hopefully people are finding their way to your website to buy it because it is the best one for people who can't get enough Wonderland with just the other versions.

I like the conveyors also. And I'm with everyone else on the 3D. I prefer to see where the little ones are headed, so I won't be playing the 3D's, sorry.

Well............
I go away for a day to go shopping and look what happens!
This looks like it is going to be enormous fun.
I think the gliding platforms (transporters) are very neat.
I can see the trampolines will give everyone a lift.
The 3D veiw applied in just limited situations, will be interesting.
Everything will take me lots of time to get used to.
AND I am sure to enjoy the new Texture editor!
Thanks Patrick.

Haven't had a whole lot of time to explore yet (should be packing to leave right now!)... was tempted to cancel the trip...

Love the trampolines, sticky cube, transporters & pushable cannons - fairly easy to get into. Need more time for the others.

Love the potential & feel of the 3D - nice for sightseeing & seeing things in better detail - had potential for a 'story'area be it signs or meeting characters that give info. but not the best when it comes to hazzards, enemies or puzzle solving areas. Toggle would be handy rather than just a straight 3d or top-down option.

On the whole though very exciting. Can't wait to try it some more.

Hey folks, thanks for all the kind words. I'm glad you are all enjoying it so far!

Trampolines are fun, aren't they? They almost didn't make it in, too.

The 3d was an iffy one. I basically put it in because so many people said it might be neat. I is definitely not good for puzzle levels, but I think some people will be able to come up with some good ideas. I think it has some possibilities - both for some visuals, but also some very different kind of levels. I made a few test levels with just me and a Fire Stinker or a Flying Saucer in a maze - you should have seen me jump out of my chair when I rounded a corner and had the UFO right in front of me blasting a fireball straight at me. :) Another thing to consider is to use it in combination with Alt-X, as people to lift their view a little in order to get a 3/4 view out of the game. We'll have to see what people will use it for. But again, it isn't meant to just throw into any level - most level are completely unplayable from this perspective.
I've noticed in my many looks for games that Wonderland and Secret Worlds are listed with many different vendors. RTW or RTWD I've never seen. Hopefully people are finding their way to your website to buy it because it is the best one for people who can't get enough Wonderland with just the other versions.
RTW is only availabe direct from us - esp. with the community involvement I don't want other game sites meddling with it. Opens up too many security holes, potential trouble, and more. That being said, there might be a few sites that I'll be able to work out something without compromising any principles. Oh, and I can't pass your comment up without reminding people that most of our business is through word of mouth - so spread the news! ;)

Just tried to make the Look Before you Leap level a 3D one Pat but movement is still limited to movement along the floor  Would have been a bit of fun to go trampolining in 3D... next time

OK, that's it. I'm out of here.

I haven't had any time to play much this weekend - but from what I have seen so far - it is fab!!!!! :P

Love the custom textures/themes (fingers crossed Poops and JG will come up with some more for us :) ). Love the transporters and the noise that goes with it - trampolines are fun but I am struggling with them at the mo

Thanks Father Patrickclaus for a wondeful Chrimbo pressie x

When I returned from a trip and saw the Platinum version, my first thought was, "What a generous gift!". Thank you so much for the new version, Patrick. RTWD is indeed the best value in a game. Now that I am not embarrassed to be a middle aged person who plays computer games, I have been telling some people about this fabulous game.

I am really impressed with those people who can just jump right in and make new levels. I am still working on my first one with the original version. Level making may be a talent that not all of us posess.

As far as the 3-D, it makes me motion sick, too. I am going to try taking Dramamine or Bonine for motion sickness before I try playing 3-D again. I hope it works because what little I saw of 3-D was fascinating.

Lucky

Thank you

Thank you for your wonderful  gift. There are really great ideas in this new release! My only sadness is to have so few time to play... :(
I have to work for (only  ) fourteen years yet, but then...

Hi Patrick,

I noticed that most of the sounds and the bouncing effect are missing in 3D mode. Will this be addressed in the January patch?
