Request for Levelmakers: List of "tricks" in level

Hi all,

I thought it would be a nice thing to do a little compilation of level creation "tricks", such as the "Stinky in Box", "Ghost Loof" or "Trampoline Exit" phenomenom for the June issue of the Midnight Post.

And, as I don't really play the custom levels much, I'd need some help from you guys. Sooo... if you discovered a bug/trick/etc that you used in a level design, could you post a reply here with a quick description of what happens, as well as one or two representative levels that use this. Ideally I'd like to credit the "first" inventor/discoverer of this trick, so if you see a trick posted in this thread that you know somebody else did first, maybe just mention that as well (not to imply that anyone would "steal" other's ideas, but not everyone has played all 5000+ levels on this board ;))

What I will do in about two weeks time is go through this thread and collect the suggested levels, make a selection of them for the June issue and (to do my part) go into the Wonderland code of these selected tricks to find out and write a little about "why" this happens.

Much thanks in advance, I hope this compilation will highlight some interesting levels that might have slipped past your radar.

Patrick

I had an idea like this recently :D
Here's some tricks:
The Walk on water trick - After a box or two heavy objects such as steel boxes launch off a trampoline and onto a coin hovering over water, they explode but the water becomes walkable. This may also work with other objects, but it has not been tested. Discoverer - unknown
The coin in object trick - When an object launches off a trampoline and lands on a coin in a sticky cube, the coin becomes inside the object. When a boulder is used, it keeps on rolling through the coin. Discoverer - Kiki
The invisible stcky cubes trick - When a "stuck" wall of sticky cubes is destroyed using barrels, they leave behind invisible, invincible walls. Discoverer - Amadeus!
The barrel and teleporter trick also known as the "connect the dots trick" - When a boulder is rolled at a barrel, and an unfunctioning teleporter is right where the boulder hits the barrel, the boulder stops and the barrel stays intact. Discoverer - Mark
I would write more, except I have to do my homework now
I'll be back later :D

Double Tramp/Double Exit: If there are two characters in a room and one exits via a double trampoline combination with an exit on each, both characters remain playalbe, but the one that exited is invisible. If there are Four characters in a level, and a double tramp with a double exit, when the first character exits, he will also force an exit of the next character, even though that character remains visible. Same thing then if the third character exits. - First noticed in a Loof101 level, but I can't find the link to the Loofers! set and can't remember the level. Two levels that have used combinations of this glitch are: "Drag Along" (4 characters, by Loirae) and "Curious" and "Still Curious" (2 characters by kiki). A couple others out there, too.

Ghost Character: Only producible by editing the lv6 file in a HEX editor. You can place as many Stinky/Loof/Qookie/Peegue characters as you want in a level, but only one of them is playable. The others stand around, can be walked through. This glitch affects the wonderland game in that after playing a level with ghost characters, the characters will show up in EVERY level played after that until the game is restarted. - Discovered by Amadeus! (Mark) First used in "Levitation" by Amadeus! Also used in and Olympic level "Hockey" by Loirae (With dozens of extras to create the illusion of a hockey team) Has spawned a whole thread of funny pictures here: http://www.pcpuzzle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7301

Invisible conveyors: Another device created in a HEX editor. Conveyors are present and functioning, but cannot be seen, allowing the background to show through. - Discovered by Loirae or Amadeus! (can't remember) and for sure used in "Olympic Closing Ceremonies" (by Loirae) as a way to put out the Olympic torch upon completing the level.

:D :D :D Hi Patrick. About the coin in the object trick, I had a coin inside a sticky cube, Then I would launch an item off a trampoline onto the sticky cube and the cube would be destroyed leaving the coin inside the item, Boulder, Prism, Plasma cube Box, etc...two levels I have used this trick in "Peegue's Island with Barrels"#289 and "A Tree Grows in Wonderland"#290---See kikidemo :D :D :D

Another trick I have used is a boulder through a coin when a ghost is on the coin Level used in-"One Hundred Miles to Wondertown, Dangy!" #100 --- See ghostdemo :D :D :D

I think Mark can write a book on the subject

I think this works with any objects. For instance: Place a box inside a sticky cube, make another box bounce onto it and you will have two boxes at the same spot. If you roll a boulder through only one of the boxes will smash, but it loks like the boulder just rolls straight through. There's obvioulsy many combinations to test, and I don't claim to have tested them all, but so far I have made it work with any object in sticky cube and any moveable object bouncing onto it. If any of the stinkers are involved they should start in the sticky cube. Otherwise they die. I don't know what happens if the objects are both stinkers.

What's that trampoline? :?

I presume you have Secret Worlds, and not Return to Wonderland?
A trampoline is a feature of Return to Wonderland Platinum.

I think it was Mark / Amadeus! in his Level "Seeing Red" (or was someone faster?)

Anyway, another little glitch I've just discovered (hope nobody else did before, if that's the case, I'm sorry): If you push one sticky cube to a second sticky cube, switch the characters fast and push the other one before the first one sticks together with it, they won't stick to each other. I guess that sounds a bit strange and isn't understandable, so I've also created a little demo:

One I found is if you push a linked sphere onto a trasport and it hits a coin it will go though it. SEE! (I don't know but it might work with bolders too)

WHAT??? I just re-read this thread and nobody has said anything about that funny ice glitch!!! It only works in certain arragements. SEE what I mean!

Lucky-That's a very interesting effect. I didn't know you could do that! :o
John-Your first glitch is very wierd, I have never seen it before
You're right about the second one, no one has mentioned it yet! But I don't think the level is solvable

Most WSW glitches works for RTWP, so I think that these two will work too. 8)

One reflector -- two reflections.
If the cannonshot has just reflected off the relfector, and you move a reflector in the side, in which the shot reflected, the shot will reflect again.

Move your character in an ice cube!
That's a wacky one. I discovered it on the level "THE TREADMILL", since the others don't have such an object-placing. It's you who CAN test if that works for any character (mine is Qookie) and for all movable objects (mine is an ice cube)

1. Imagine the setup like that:
FCIQ
Q=Qookie, I=Ice, C= ice Cube on ice, F=floor.
Qookie goes to the left.
2. This is what happens, the ice cubes pushes only one tile to the left, because Qookie won't push it further, but instead end up IN the ice cube!
Weird.
I think that there are many more glitches, and all of them about COLLISIONS, but I don't have RTWP, and so I can NOT test each and every collision. I only have WSW (and after backing-it-up without writing the code, my WSW gives me only 60 minutes of gameplay, and though I completed all the levels, it's a pain to test  {Nevermind, found a keygen to not to pay twice})

Remember, that I don't know the first discoverers of these two. I can't play custom levels, with no RTWP.

Why did your WSW limit your time?
I know you were desperate, but you should have just asked MS for another copy of WSW.
You should definately let MS know about the site that had the keygen so that they can be punished (it's illegal, you know!)

I think the icecube glitch happens with any object! (I think that was discovered by DiscGolfer)

HEY! I just posted about that plasma-block glitch! (however I called it the fummy ice glitch... In my DEMO you can see Qookie with a prism and reflector in her while Peegue is standing in a box)

More glitches!

The "peaceful scouge" glitch: Sometimes, when you place a scouge along the edge of the screen, it only shoots a fireball about 2 tiles, then it stops! Can be seen in Britcomposer's "Path of Death" level. Discoverer - Unknown
The "unwalkable ice" glitch - Sometimes, ice on the side of the screen cannot be traversed. Can be seen in my "Meteor Shower" level, in which you can only slide one space to the left on the ice even though there are two tiles of ice. Discoverer - Unknown
The "Unwalkable by monsters floor" glitch - When you put a UFO mother ship underground, monsters will not be able to walk on that tile, but a stinker can. Can be seen in Kaz67's "Three Wise Monkeys" level. Discoverer - Kaz67

About a keygen: there are THOUSANDS of sites with this keygen. To ban THOUSAND sites, because of one program? I think that the program should be removed, not the sites :!:
About limiting the time: well, I've got it from reflexivearcade.com and had the registration key. But when I needed to put it to another hard drive, I've lost the key. This way it gives you all the levels, but only for 60 minutes.
About Mark's book of glitches: begin where you want, I don't care.

The cannons aren't the only friends. In my unsolvable level "MONSTER MANIA 5" the second red stink does not havr far enough range... BIZZARE!

It seems like I'll have to get RTWD so I could try all your tricks and levels. :)
Cna Iknow the story of that game? I mean, the story of WSW is that Stinky wants to rescure the stinkers after tornado and blah, blah, blah... I would like if someone writes it, but without these blah's. :stinkywink:

Well, the classic story is simple: The magic rainbow coins got shattered around Wonderland again (Like in the really classic Wonderland), and Stinky and Loof have to collect them. The deluxe story is a bit more complex: Strange Rainbow Spirits appeared in Wonderland. Stinky, Loof, and their "new" friends Qookie and Peegue have to find out about them and help them get back to the place from where they came. The Platinum Story: Well, you'll see...

Anyway, I can really recommend buying RTW, since it has great levels, even more puzzle elements and a level editor... :D
