Mathematical oddities

Post by jozsefkoma » Sun Dec 19, 2010 4:09 pm

I posted exactly this post on 3.studio forum but I want show this to other users from this forum

Just look!

13837 * xy * 73=xyxyxyxy
xy is a number between 10 and 99

Example:

13837 *35 * 73=35353535 (35 35 35 35)

Test it on any calculator.
It's work.
Try with another numbers.

Another one:

1 x 8 + 1 = 9
12 x 8 + 2 = 98
123 x 8 + 3 = 987
1234 x 8 + 4 = 9876
12345 x 8 + 5 = 98765
123456 x 8 + 6 = 987654
1234567 x 8 + 7 = 9876543
12345678 x 8 + 8 = 98765432
123456789 x 8 + 9 = 987654321

1 x 9 + 2 = 11
12 x 9 + 3 = 111
123 x 9 + 4 = 1111
1234 x 9 + 5 = 11111
12345 x 9 + 6 = 111111
123456 x 9 + 7 = 1111111
1234567 x 9 + 8 = 11111111
12345678 x 9 + 9 = 111111111
123456789 x 9 +10 = 1111111111

9 x 9 + 7 = 88
98 x 9 + 6 = 888
987 x 9 + 5 = 8888
9876 x 9 + 4 = 88888
98765 x 9 + 3 = 888888
987654 x 9 + 2 = 8888888
9876543 x 9 + 1 = 88888888
98765432 x 9 + 0 = 888888888

1 x 1 = 1
11 x 11 = 121
111 x 111 = 12321
1111 x 1111 = 1234321
11111 x 11111 = 123454321
111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
1111111 x 1111111 = 1234567654321
11111111 x 11111111=123456787654321
111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321

Awesome.
Unneeded poll though. Seriously, there's way too many.

Too many? Like, only 1/8 of the topics in this area are polls.

The point is, there shouldn't be that many, let alone threads with polls where they aren't needed.

I found something very similar in fourth-grade science class:

x / 9 = 0.xxxxxxxx...
xy / 99 = 0.xyxyxyxy...
xyz / 999 = 0.xyzxyzxyz...
xyzt / 9999 = 0.xyztxyzt...
and so on.

Darn dp glitch!_
So, 0.99999999 equals 1?
But it's not possible, because they're two completely different numbers.

No, you didn't read well. You forgot the dots ..... after the nines which mean that the nines are repeated infinitely. 0,999999 is not 1, but 0,999999... however is!

Sorry for previous post.
I can't edit it.
Instead of "At my country" I wanted to write "In my country"

I used a _ to try and make a repeat sign. Something popped into my head,
If 8 ninths is 0.888...(right?)
Then 9 ninths would be 0.999...
but 9 over nine is 1!

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean that you understand that 0,99999..... = 1 ?

Here's how it works:

0.999... = x, our variable.

If you multiply x by 10, you get 9.999...

Taking x away from 10x is taking 0.999... away from 9.999... this gives us 9, which is the same as 9x.

Therefore, x = 1 = 0.999...

If a line 1 is perpendicular to line 2, line 1 is infinitely long. If a 3rd line is drawn somewhere from the line 2 to meet line 1 what will be the angle at which line 3 is drawn?

A: 90 degrees (Competitive studies point of view)
