Adventure #52: Welcome to Windows 98

Post by MyNameIsKooky » Fri Jul 06, 2012 8:36 am

Click here to see my level list.

This adventure requires my Windows 98 Leveltex.

-=-WINDOWS DECALOGY-=-

Part 1: Welcome to Windows 98
Part 2: Corrupted Folder
Part 3: ???
Part 4: ???
Part 5: ???
Part 6: ???
Part 7: ???
Part 8: ???
Part 9: ???
Part 10: ???

I probably put way more effort into this adventure than I should have. I believe this is the first time I've used a custom leveltex of my own since I made THE GIANT ZURKON. And I made it all by hand, too! Well, copying and pasting, but yeah, it was still painful.

Since it's almost impossible to make decent puzzles that stick to the theme that this adventure has, I decided to try something different. This adventure is basically some sort of large maze that's very easy to get lost in. I even got confused a few times myself while testing this adventure.

Good luck and have fun! :D

Took me 30 minutes to solve this! Here's my review:

STORYLINE: 18/20
Good, but very weird. I know that's just the way you make things, but sometimes I wish it was more mysterious and less crazy.

It's a bit like my little sister playing the "Detective Game" our family made up. While most of us are coming up with robbery/kidnapping/evilplot, my little sister claims to have seen a floating apple in the sky. A floating apple with eyes, nose, legs, arms, and ears. Most of the time it isn't even explained, it's just a random event. It may be funny, but try to make sure your storylines are logical.

SCENERY: 20/20

PUZZLE GAMEPLAY: 16/20
Very tedious. I myself enjoy mazes and the like, but I know some people who would run at the sight of this.

ACTION GAMEPLAY: 16/20
The attack of the virus chompers! Great fun, but I've seen it all before.

GLITCH-FREE: 20/20
Perfect design! I couldn't find any loopholes anywhere!

OVERALL: 88/100
Very good adventure, but be sure to tie it all up in the end!

I've actually been thinking up some decent things for this part of my story and I can tell you that this decalogy will most likely be my most epic one yet. It's just starting out very slow. There will also be an explanation for how Mr. Zurkon and Tiny Baby Man ended up here.

I also agree that this adventure might've been a bit tedious, but I didn't know what else I could've put without clashing with the scenery. The next adventure will be better, though.

EDIT: I should've mentioned that I can't take Wonderland Adventures seriously. I'm perfectly capable of coming up with epic plot ideas whenever I feel like it, but surely you'd like turning your story brain off and enjoying the ride whenever you played my custom adventures, as a break from the constant epicness? Oh well, that will probably change soon anyways. Although I'll still maintain my slapstick humor.

In the same window as the second Clippy, there's a small square config file. Press it once so that your straight path to the right gets blocked by locks. Go back to the very start of the level and enter the second folder. Now you should be able to press the other small square config file without getting stuck, which will toggle the two pathways to the left. I don't remember which folder exactly takes you to the rightmost pathway, but when you do get there, it will lead you to the button which disables the Clippy.
Sorry, that might've been a little confusing. If you want, I'll post some pictures.

I just realized that custom textures aren't working for me. How did I forget so fast that MWM's thing for WACC2 wasn't supposed to take place in a GRASSY castle...

at least the mistake here was obvious.

EDIT: And yet I don't know how to fix this. Older levels with textures needed work fine...
EDIT2: It turns out I was forgetting to remove the underlines that my computer was putting in the filenames. So that's explanatory.
EDIT3: And these weren't the first times either, it's just the other textures like this I never needed (yet, anyway). Bother.

This was actually cool, despite being plot-light. I liked all the cross-window connections and stuff that made it puzzley.

IDK what your problem is but it goes in the User data/Custom Content/Textures. Another thing is that you have to get rid of the "_" and replace it with a space. Hope this helped :) .
EDIT:Here's my critique sheet (I'm going to try it one more time and If I fail I 'll just not critique.)
MY CRITIQUE SHEET
Storyline: 10/10
I absolutely LOVE storylines like this.Computer storylines are cool
Action Gameplay:7/10
The virus chompers were alright but a little boring.I HATED the second set 'cause you couldn't delete them.
Puzzles: 8/10
I didn't really like having to keep going into another file and I kept forgetting which file was which. It was pretty challenging so I'm giving you an 8 EDIT: Another thing I didn't like was how the file would keep fading out and back in again.
Scenery: 9/10
I thought the scenery was pretty cool only it got a little boring after a while.
Glitch free:9/10
the second set of chompers was a little laggy but that could just be our computer. Same with the first.
Total points:43/50

Was that a good Critique sheet or was it bad again ?

I've finished playing this...
here's the feedback:

I liked the virus chompers, the storyline was weird but so fitting the adventure. The mystery was quite simple.
Looking forward to the next part.
Maybe you could make a WINDOWS XP texture

Put it in userdata/customcontent/textures and change all the underlines to spaces.

I played the whole adventure not realizing that I hadn't renamed the computer texture! :P

Then I changed the _ to a space and re-played it.

GRADINGS:

Puzzle: 15/17 A little simple, but considering the theme your work is good enough.

Action: 17/17 Blast those recycling bins and virus chompers!

Storyline: 10/17 Um...you didn't really have any? :?

Background: 17/17 It DOES look like a computer screen in the end!

Glitch-Free: 16/16 No glitches found!

Keeping Player Interested: 16/16 Good job, what else can I say? I like how Clippy acted. He isn't very smart, is he?

TOTAL: 91/100
