Site Slowness

Post by jdl »

Lately the forum has been loading slowly off and on everyday for the last few weeks. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I've been having the same issue off and on the last week or so.

I thought it might have been my computer needing a defrag or my security system doing a scan.

Apparently it's not.

A typical page load should take a second or two (literally).

Yes, but it seems to be taking a lot longer than that. One minute the site is completely fine and the next I have to wait at least 10-20 seconds before a page even loads.

Edit: This message took around 13 seconds to post.

Look at the post date. This thread is over a week old, and at the time, the forum was very slow to respond.

Let's keep it open for a while... while I did not experience the slowness myself, I did take note of the comments here. In case it returns, I'll have to investigate.

The website was faster back when I first joined, but sometimes it becomes annoying.
For me, it goes away after refreshing the page a few times, though.

Lately, the forum hasn't been marking new posts as read after I see them. Has anyone else noticed this?

This started happening since even late 2014. Posts don't get read after being clicked on, and instead just mark themselves as read after a few hours, regardless whether you read them or not.

I think this may be an issue with firefox. I used to have this problem a lot, but now I'm using Chrome and haven't had it since switching.
Clearing pcpuzzle.com's cookies or logging out and back in should temporarily fix the problem.

After reading the phpBB2 code, I think this is a server problem.

The slowness still seems to be happening here and there. I don't think it's my internet because I can load another site just fine while the forum is trying to load, so I'm not sure what's happening here. :?

I really don't want to bump this, but it's really starting to get annoying now.
As far as I can tell, the slowness starts around maybe 8:30 AM and ends anywhere from 12-1PM (this is EST).

I did a website ping test when I noticed it started going slow. The forum doesn't like links with the ! symbol in them so you're going to have to copy this link and paste it manually:

Code: Select all

https://tools.pingdom.com/#!/dgBGKx/
Scroll down to view the results.

Wait, so everybody else is experiencing this, too? It's particularly bad for me, as it's combined with my crappy internet to the point where a post like this can take minutes to post.
Remember to look at the dates that every post is made. It's been many years, and I, and others, may not be the same people we were when we made them. This is a symbol of where we came from, and should be remembered as that.

Minutes? Are you serious?! I have never seen anything like that.
Every time I post something, I see the success message within about 4 seconds of clicking the button.
Of course, I might be visiting at off-peak times and so never run into it.

I just log off and go back on later. It's not worth the wait.
