Having said that, as much as I hate to post something negative, it just clicked in my brain that in two weeks Season 1 will be over, and while Season 2 exists, nopony knows when it's going to start airing.
The only hint as to when is that "Episodes are supposed to be completed in December", though whether that means Season 2 will be over by then or if that's when it starts, I have no idea.

Okay well I have had a talk with one of the animators of the show, she just messaged me back today (she requested that her name not be given, so I'm going to respect that). I asked her about season 2, and she told me this:

So I guess that answers the question!Animator wrote:hmmm december huh?
Sounds like that's when the episodes will be completed animated...not finished aired on TV. Our studio starts key posing the scenes in May or June, then those will be sent off to Top Draw studios in the Phillipeans to get animated.
We finished animating the first season in December before we all left for Christmas holidays, so I would imagine that the same thing will happen this time. They did start airing episodes as we were still working though but we were always quite a few episodes ahead of the air dates so that things weren't too rushed. If season 2 ends up having as many episodes as season 1 then I would assume that they'll still be showing new episodes on TV at this time next year!
If you want to add this information to the pony forums just mention you have a reliable inside source and please don't quote me by name hahah...

Having said that, there is quite a huge fanbase on the internet (a lot of members are male, too; enough that the term "brony" was coined for male fans of it) - despite being a show meant for young girls, it's garnered a lot of attention for multiple reasons:
1) It isn't overly sweet for a kids' show. Yeah, it has quite a lot of pink and hearts and the like, but that was due to a corporate decision. The creator (Lauren Faust, the wife of the guy who made Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends) intended for it to be watchable by anyone.
2) It doesn't treat kids like they're mentally incapable. The characters rarely state the obvious, other than some of the end-episode-moral stuff.
3) The humor is mostly genuine, instead of being "lolsorandumb" all the time. While there's nothing wrong with that, it often gets old quickly.
4) The characters have genuine personalities, instead of all being cookie-cutter characters (so to speak). In fact, the protagonist in the first two episodes (Twilight Sparkle) doesn't approve of friendship either (you can tell by the expression on her face whenever anypony else mentions being friends).
5) There's genuine character development - As mentioned above, Twilight's a bit of a loner, but by the end of Episode 2, she's above that. There are some other instances between other characters as well.
6) The colors aren't overly bright or dingy. Of course, the environment is bright and colorful, but not to the point that it'd hurt ones' eyes.
7) I don't care what anyone else thinks, this is one of the most adorable things ever when it wants to be. Proof: Fluttershy.
And yes, I did just write a long post about ponies.

And yet it's a show intended for little girls? If it was on 4chan, I thought it must've been a parody or hilarious or something.boywhoflies wrote:It is.MyNameIsKooky wrote: Although the show must be good if you guys are still talking about it.
I'm even thinking about watching it, but I'm never going to get a pony avatar. Ever.
Trollface for president.
It wasn't made for little girls. Lauren Faust said that she wanted to make a show that was suitable for any age group, and although anything before gen 4 is for little girls (and is also incredibly suckage [no joke]) it's still a good show. Don't deny it before you try it.MyNameIsKooky wrote:And yet it's a show intended for little girls? There's way more bronies out there than actual little girls who are into it. Also I've noticed something: in this society, don't admit that you're into MLP until you know the person you're discussing it with likes it too.boywhoflies wrote:Go ahead. It can't hurt you...if you're embaraced just wait until you are home alone. That's what I did.
Also, I find it hard to belive 6 year old girls could follow the plot...lol.
No offence to any 6 year old girls out there.

Although the show must be good if you guys are still talking about it.

In all seriousness, I think TvTropes puts it best - "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is an all-too-rare example of how to update a retro cartoon the right way. It brings clever self-aware humor, a more streamlined art style, and strong characterization."
On the subject of audience - It's definitely not just intended for 6-year old girls, while the first three episodes are attempting to establish that audience. If you ask me, a good starting point would be Episode 4, as it doesn't require too much explanation to follow what happens.

If you look at episode 1 and 2, it's pretty much the same plot as Paper Mario 2, mostly about the end of the game...well, the outline is the same, anyway.Qloof234 wrote:On the subject of audience - It's definitely not just intended for 6-year old girls, while the first three episodes are attempting to establish that audience. In those episodes:
A dark pony was sealed in the moon. When she returns, 1000 years later, the world will be launched into a eternal night.
In Paper Mario 2:
A dark soul was sealed in a coffin. When she returns, 1000 years later, the world will be launched into a eternal night.
