Spacegame (Abandoned - Read first post)

Post by dlcs18 »

EDIT: Game is now abandoned due to never being able to reach anywhere beyond early alpha even 6+ months after being started.

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mz11mjihny3
This is a platformer toy that uses up and down gravity switching.
I am intending to use this engine for a full game, but since I lose inspiration with most projects I am not making any promises.
So... here's what you do.

You are a red block and you move with the left and right arrow keys, and use up to jump (or down if you are in reverse gravity, which is gonna be explained now...)

Your red block is in normal gravity from the start, but the blocks have their own gravity pull and you will go into reverse gravity if you fall into the pull of a block which is above you.

Experiment with it =P

Plz leave comments on what you think of it kthxbai.

(Yes, this is much inspired from Super Mario Galaxy)

PHAIL

I have tried and tried loads of different things but I can't get the left and right gravity to work properly and it's so frustrating cause I don't even see what is wrong with the programming...

Oh well, guess you could still do some fun stuff with two directions of gravity...

Here is a gmk of what I have (the level is different from the one in the exe though =P)

How do you get what?
If you mean a full game using this engine, then I've only just started making it.

Here's a picture of what the game looks like so far. (Don't forget this is in very early stage and may look drastically different in teh future.)

I have an early demo of the thing!
Download it here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mttuyzjmikz
(It is an early demo so it's kinda rough.)
Please tell me what you think of it.

I've also made a video for it, here:

(Yea, I know, the quality is terrible. XD)

WOW! This game is devolping quite nicely! 8) I might make a YT video giving my thoughts, suggestions, etc on it if you'd like. :D

BTW, nice uses of the path system for the "teleporters".

Perhaps that could be what the stars can be for!

I'll put in blue stars that can be used as checkpoints :P

I'm gonna keep the red stars where they are but I might use them for a different advantage and keep the whole life system out.

Is there gonna be time in this game? If so, you might want to add bonus time objects. (Red star?)

Also, a suggestion for the exit, would be to make a golden star!

Here's an update.

There are now Golden Stars at the end of each level.
I have added LAVA  and FIREBALLS

and... *drumroll*
In the final game, some levels are gonna be repeated, however, the repeats of the certain levels have the speed tripled, so it's harder to finish the level. (or easier... it depends)
You can see an example of all these in the next demo that I will hopefully finish later.
EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention... there is gonna be a hub area for each world that there is. I think this game needs more than just "go from one level to the next and then onto the next" like Click and Move was :P

NEW DEMO! NEW DEMO! :P
In this new demo you'll see:
The hub world (not very polished at the moment)
3 levels, and a speedier version of Level 1.
Checkpoints :P
Music by me and Blast!10 (The speedy one is by me and the spacey music everywhere else is by Blast!10)
Fireballs and Lava
Fan floors that lift you up (3 different types)
Maybe some other stuff that I forgot to mention...
When playing the game you will have a file in the same folder that your game is in called "spacegame_checkpointer.spg". Don't remove it when playing cuz it powers the checkpoint star.

Blast!10 is hosting Demo 2 on his site since MediaFire is working like crap at the moment. (Thanks Blasty!)
So... here it is!

All I got to say is... WOW! I like the enemies and how you can hop on them to destroy them. *coughmariorefrencecough* I also like the Hub area. How did you do the "Hub Events" thing? This reminds me of how Super Mario World had sooo many secret exits...

BTW, at the triple speed level, I felt like screaming "LUDICROUS SPEED!!!".

Awesome. Just awesome.

The idea with the lazers and the fans in level 3 is genius, but the only problem is I can't tell when to jump because I can't see the fans... :?

EDIT: Figured it out, I'm still over thinking things after all this time

Either A), I Wanna Be The Guy has made me suspicious of every little thing in video games, or B) I was still on a high from drinking a few cans of Cream Soda and ended up jumping over the lazer (or trying to)
